first of all make sure you call your pharmasist. not all meds should be broken or crushed.

do you put your meds in like icecream or something to help have them go down easier? Maybe a small glass of milk? I have to crush most of my meds, but dont have probs with them hurting my stomach. You may want to see if your meds come in liquid form or other forms besides pills..

I've done a few tricks. 1. crushed them into yogart. 2. Swallowed them in pieces, (dont like that one) 3. see it is available in capsule form, that you can open and swallow the contents. I do that with my Nexium and it works great.

If you find you can break pills (once you check with pharmacist) get a pill cutter. Even if they are scored, it will help you cut them. If you have anything that is a gelcap, that can't be cut. I take fish oil and the gelcaps are huge, so I went looking for an alternative, and found Twin Labs Emulsified fish oil. It is liquid with a mint flavoring, and not bad. One tablespoon gives you 1600 Omega 3's. And I found my Glucosamine/Chondroitin in a packet that is added to Water, like the Crystal Light flavorings. It is pricey retail, but I have a friend that works at Nutramax Labs and she gets it for me at employee price. The regular Cosamin DS capsule can be opened and mixed in cold (not hot) food.

Granted the above are supplements and not meds, but check with the pharmacy. There may be alternative forms of the meds you are taking.

I cut my allergy pills in half and take them 2 hours a part. I crushed them last night though and it was much, much easier. I just mixed it with Crystal light and honey. I know honey is a no, no, but the pills are nasty. Oh,I based the size on my birth control pills, the Doc said those are so small I needn't worry about it and yeah, listen to those who mentioned making sure you can cut your pils. My brother did this with his bi-polar meds and it was not a good thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
