Hi All,

I am just beginning my Quest to find out if I will qualify for lap band. I am 25 and have been over-weight all my life. I started out as a chubby kid and just kept going. I'm at the point now where I'm over 200 lbs but only about 5 ft tall. I am at my absolute highest weight and I am stunned by it. I gained the majority of it in the last 2 yrs or so. I had hovered in the 170-180 range for a long time but (what seems like) all of a sudden I have blown up.

Tonight I am going to my first informational meeting at Brigham and Women's Hospital here in Boston to learn about Lap band. I am hoping after that I will be able to schedule a consultation with a surgeon. I am a little nervous that maybe I am not heavy enough for the procedure.. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? I am about 215lbs. I am afraid they will tell me to diet and exercise and that is just not working for me anymore, if it every really did. My exercise is at a standstill because my knees hurt which I know is a result of my weight.

In the absence of having any real information about me- based on my weight and age alone does anyone here think they'll operate on me? I am 100% healthy other than the extra weight.

Thanks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
