1st fill, it just doesn't feel right...worried

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill today and am about 6 weeks out from surgery. At the time of the fill I felt fine then I started to get worse.

It started with tightness in the throat, I guess that's normal. Then pain in the shoulders, ok that's normal too.

Now it has grown into terrrible pain in my jaw on both sides and a splitting headache. Talk about referred pain!!

Plus when I first came home I was able to drink Water fine, no worries. Then I tried some Tomato Soup, big mistake. After one spoonful I had a HUGE golfball and then a few minutes later was overcome with nausea and had to throw up hard. Now I'm sitting here wondering how I am going to be able to take my pills and wishing that I could take some Advil or something to combat these referred pains. Am I just unlucky or is this all normal?

I had some major problems with swelling in the beginning. So much so that the Dr wants me to do full liquids for a full week after the fill. Maybe my stomach is just freaking out again and swelling up?

I have nonstop terrible nausea and really wish I had some phenegren to put me to sleep and stop the nausea. I pray that I feel better tomorrow.

Wow, I am not sure what you should do, but I know I would be getting a little unfill ASAP. You need to be able to get fluids down or you will dehydrate.

Good Luck

Hamu,

First off, stay clear of Tomato Soup for the next week. Tomato's are acidic and could cause stomach problems. Also *avoid* like the plague, advil! Thats an ansaid product and could lead to future problems with your band.

You have a higher level of perseverance, cause I wouldve called my sugeon back by now and asked for his opinion on this.

Are you better today? Try sipping on warm broth and see what happens. *please* let us know!

Not been too great. I was up until 5am with dry heaves. It was SO awful. This morning Clear Liquids go down fine so I will keep on truckin'. I figure as long as I can get down fluids then I should be ok. I din't mind the liquid diet, but I do mind if I can't get fluids down or if I am nauseous all the time.

Do doctors charge for unfills if you're paying for the fills yourself? I REALLY don't want an unfill because I want this to work. I just need to give my stomach a break so that the swelling goes down.

You are on the right track with the liquids. If you are not nauseous then and the liquid is going down alright just give it a couple days. But if you are worse tommorrow call your doc cause you do not want to suffer the weekend..

Hope you feel better soon.:D

Sounds like you might be too tight, have you called your doctor. I'd want to hold onto all that tightness too, but dry heaving can be dangerous. Weigh the risks before waiting any longer to call him. I think most doctors would do a courtesy adjustment if your fill was too tight, as long as you call him right away. I've never heard of all the associated pains you're talking about though. I'm not a fill expert, but I think you should call your doc pronto. Better safe than sorry, right?

I've noticed the same jaw/head/ear pain with my fills, especially if overfilled. It might be a safe thing to get at least a tiny bit taken out. Reason being, the fills actually get tighter later down the road. If you can't chew hard Proteins and swallow them without pb'ing, you could do some real damage by keeping the fill.

Whether or not it's swelling, sounds like you got a bit overfilled.

In terms of costs, you need to ask your surgeon what his policy is for unfills in cases where a new fill is a little too much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
