I just had lap band surgery last Friday and it is now 4 days later on Tuesday. I don't feel so great and I can't burp which is driving me nuts, I also feel dizzy and light headed because I haven't eaten. I am hungry though - is that normal?

I had my surgery on Wednesday and it wasn't till Monday that I felt well enough to say I am feeling better! Hang in there! Has your Dr. allowed you to drink Protein shakes-- those made a world of difference with me. Take it easy and it will get better.

Congratulations on your journey!

I was banded Aug 28 and after 4-5 days I felt so much better. You body went through a huge shock and needs to calm heal. Trust me all the weird feelings you have shall all pass and you will feel like a new person.

While I did not have the not-burping problem, I had the dizziness and hunger too. I called my dr.'s office, and they put me on full liquids a few days early. My first "meal" was warmed up ricotta cheese, and it was heaven! I needed to be reminded that my band was put in empty, and once the initial swelling went down, I didn't have much restriction. I learned to eat several small meals a day, most of them warm or hot (Soups became my best friend, and so did my blender.) Also remember that the whole 4 or so oz. of food is for those who have restriction from their band being filled. Call your doctor, and tell them about the dizziness. Tell them you would like to start the next phase, and see how it goes. Also, if they let you have Protein shakes (and I don't see why they wouldn't) be careful - if they are all you are living on, they could cause intestinal distress as some people cannot tolerate them easily with no other food in their bodies.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
