Depressed

Recommended Posts

I have been struggling with my last fill since July and I am so depressed about the whole thing right now.

I went to see my surgeon in August thinking I was possibly too tight. He thought I was fine and my weight loss was progressing. Well since last month, I have only lost 7 lbs. I can hardly get any food in. I would say 3 to 4 days a week I cannot eat solid Protein. I either have to stick to Protein Shakes or eat "slider" foods to get in some calories. Sometimes I PB so bad that I don't try to eat or drink anything after that but then on the other days I can eat "normal".

Actually, it really still isn't normal because I cannot get in any veggies and/or fruits. If I get in my Protein and a small amount of carbs I'm lucky. I know I should be trying the veggies/fruit first before carbs, but the veggies seems to get stuck more. I never feel hungry, but I also don't feel like I feel full when I should.

I'm to the point where I am not feeling well. My labs show that I'm now anemic and I'm feeling dizzy and just overall not well.

I am disappointed in the whole process right now. I picked the lapband because I didn't want to get nutritionally compromised, but that is exactly what is happening. I'm afraid to get a slight unfill because then I might be able to eat more than I should.

Has anyone else had this happen? How did you handle it? I feel like I'm out of control. I can't keep my eating habits consistent because of the finikieness of this band and I don't like that. Any suggestions?

Plain and simple, you are too tight. You need to be able to eat real food and not pb all the time trying to get in your solid Protein. Get your surgeon to listen to you or find one who will. It sounds like you already know this, but you're unsure of yourself. Trust yourself. You know your body best and you sound like you know you're not eating what you need to to be healthy.

Often people slow on their weight loss because they are too tight. It can be as bad or worse than being too loose. Get some Fluid out and eat some proper nutrition to fuel your body.

I am seeing my surgeon on Wednesday and I am going to ask for an unfill since I am having a little heartburn to sometimes when I eat. To top it all off, I've also injured my leg exercising so now that's at a standstill too!

Could this get any worse!

How many calories are you getting in per day? Almost sounds like your body is going into starvation mode.

My doc says that if you can't get 1000 - 1200 calories per day of good food, you're too tight.

Carla, sometimes a drastic reduction in calories can trigger a shut down or slow down of your metabolism, and you actually need more calories to continue losing. I've had this happen before. You're to tight. Get an adjustment and start eating your solid Proteins and veggies!!! It's a must. If you are getting weak, you won't be able to exercise. That keeps the metabolism up at at peak. Go to the doctor as soon as possible. good luck and don't give up!!

Just an update....I went to my surgeon today and he removed .5 cc from my band. He said I should feel immediate relief and to go out and have lunch :)

I did just that and was a little nervous with the first bite, but was able to eat just fine. I also had dinner tonight with no problems.

What a relief!!!! I hope it stays that way because I feel so much better. I was feeling very blah and dizzy and now feel great that I could actually get in some hard Protein and decent calories.

Oh happy day!!!! :confused::biggrin::smile:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
