nicolep 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Hello, I am brand new to the board. I see that people are getting the procedure covered by their insurance companies but I have also seen that some people say you need to make sure that your policy has the weight loss surgery rider. I want to start shopping around for insurance that I would have to pay individually because I am an independent contractor. I was going to look into getting Anthem but this leaves me at a loss because I have no way of knowing if these individual plans have this or not. financing as far as I know is not an option for me (due to credit score and rating) at this time but anything is possible. I would like to get insurance just because it would be nice to have since I don't have any but if I can also get this covered that would be an added bonus. Does anyone have individual insurance that would know about this? Thank you
cella 0 Posted September 23, 2008 I have group insurance but I have health net HMO. I would think a HMO would be easy to get as an indiviual plan. It took me less than 2 months to get an approval and surgery date. As long as you have a bmi of 40 or over you are good to go if you are under 40 bmi you have to have 2 comorbidities. All insurance plans are clear whether they cover bariatric surgery or not. I would just ask specifically for the bariatric coverages so that your crystal clear.
