Nice to meet all of you...I am very, very new to the whole thing...just found out yesterday that I should consider lap band surgery. You know, it's always nice to be told you are too fat...this time, by an orthopedic dr. who is treating tendonitis in my ankle. He asked if I had ever considered it. I said "No, not until now." :phanvan He gave me a referral for a surgeon, so I called my "real" dr. and asked her about it...she seconded the motion and volunteered to write a letter. The ortho will write a letter, too. Things are going pretty fast, don't you think? Just kidddng... I guess it is time to face the music...I'm not just chubby! I have been reading a little about lap band, and I think it is the best method...but I guess I am just a little sad that I will have to give up one of my favorite things: food! OF COURSE, that's how I got here in the first place! I've enjoyed browing around your place here and hope to meet you all and learn from you. Thanks for being here!

PS How do you get the ticker tape that measures your weight loss?

Hi & Welcome to LBT

You will not have to give up food! Who told you that? The best thing about the band is you lose weight and still get to enjoy food, just do not eat as much :D

I sitll enjoy all of the foods I ate pre-band, just alot less. Im sure others will tell you the same thing

I am just a little sad that I will have to give up one of my favorite things: food!

Best of luck to you I hope things work in your favor

Wow! Thanks for the news...I had read that some foods were hard to tolerate, like bread, some dairy, chicken, etc. I also wonder how it will affect my family if I am eating so differently.

I want to know anything about it, since I'm right at the very start!

Thanks!

Thanks! Did you see I already figured it out and added it. This is probably a dumb question ('cause no matter how many people say it, I do believe ther is such a thing as a dumb question!) but how do you move the pointer on the ruler?

Dear Mousecrazy. Some foods are harder than others for different people to eat. chicken is easy for me as long as I use hummus or avacado to "lube" it with. bread is a problem for most people, but crackers & usually toast are tolerated. The only 2 things I can think of that really aren't recommended are asparagus & pineapple. But mabye someone else will tell you then can eat them. Some people have problems w/rice, some don't. It's really individual, but I'd say for the most part I can eat a wide, satisfying varity of foods.

Please let us know how things progress for you.

Wow KarenB! You've done great! I'm hoping I can have the surgery before I go back to school the early part of August, but it sounds like it might take more time. I had no idea there were so many tests and pre-op stuff involved. Well, that's why I'm here, to learn. Thanks for your good wishes, and congratulations to you!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
