New to the website...new to the lap band

Recommended Posts

My name is Sara and I had my surgery exactly 1 week ago today. Was a breeze but the air in my body needs to leave. my left shoulder has been killing me. I lost about 25lbs pre-op following the programs guidelines and am looking forward to my weigh in on Thursday. My surgeon was Dr. Sloan in Fort Wayne IN. They have a great program. I had to attend meetings 4 weeks before and now 6 weeks afters. It's great to have the support.

No sure how this website works. would love to add a weight tracker but not sure how. ANy suggestions. Looking at other peoples motivates me. Hope i can do the same for others.

Hi Sara, I am also new to website and lap band. i had mine done four days ago. I sopose i am one of the lucky ones in that i am burping and passing wind like a trouper . so no sholder pain. Am certainly getting sick of the Optifast liquid diet but i sopose its only two weeks:tongue_smilie:. Hows your exercise going? I went for my first walk today and am still quite tender in the stomach region. How about you?

It's going well. I started walking the day after surgery. 20 minutes three times a day. Except for the day my sister in law said a walkinging trail was about 1 mile. It was actually a little over 2. I've decided to make Monday's my day off. Looking into buying a bike since it's so dark in the mornings before work.

well i was in hospital one night, keep up your pain relief the worst is getting up out of bed and being sore but a week down the track im ok. have been taking loperimide for loose bowls. and am getting sick of Fluid diet. but on the up side i have lost 15 kg in one week, although the dr said i would loose a lot initially then curve back up before the band was filled. Good luck i think its the best decission i have ever made. Helen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
