Aristocrat 0 Posted September 22, 2008 Hello!!! My name is Danielle. I am getting banded on October 6th. I have started my full liquid diet today. I am very nervous that I am going to die during the surgery. My doc said I shouldn't be too worried because I am only 28 but I keep getting this terrible feeling of doom. I really don't mind dying but I would feel so bad for my husband and my family if I do. I had my gallbladder removed in 2003 so I have had surgery before so that makes me feel a little better. I wanted to ask my doctor how many patients he had lost during the surgery but I chickened out! Is this a common feeling or I am becoming paranoid as well?
ksill18 0 Posted September 22, 2008 its a fear that I have as well. My surgery is in November, but there are a lot of very supportive and knowledgeable people on this forum that will help calm your fears.
RayeP 0 Posted September 22, 2008  I think everyone is nervous before surgry. As long as your doctor has been doing this for awhile it'll all go ok! My family wanted to talk me out of it at first until the doctor told them that the surgery is safer tan all the health problems if you don't lose weight. That made the decision for them. IM_LORI 0 Posted September 22, 2008 oh girl! You are getting worked up over nothing. I had my band 10-19-2007, and I just had my gall bladder out last month. The band was a little more difficult pain wise, as I had a lot of retained air inside. But in terms of difficulty and life threatening mistakes, this is a no brainer surgery. From start to finish, 45 minutes. There isn't a whole lot of detailed skilled required, like a neurosurgery or something. You'll wake up, and you WILL! You'll feel like you did too many sit-ups at the gym, and you'll be moving slowly for a few days. You WILL NOT DIE! Do you have chronic heart of lung issues that your concerned about? Severe reactions to anesthesia? If not, you're going to be fine, and be one hot looking babe in a couple years !
sneal 0 Posted September 22, 2008 I had my surgery 1 week ago today. It was fine. The only pain i really had was from the air they pump into you. Other than that I have had no trouble. I did the liquid for 3 1/2 weeks before surgery. You get use to it. Infact, I'm still drinking the shakes now and although not the most tastefull thing it fills me up nicely. you'll do great!!!
crzytchr 3 Posted September 22, 2008 I too, was very afraid of dying during surgery. I had never had surgery before. I really was terrified. It was almost morbid the preoccupation I had with dying the week prior to my surgery. Well, surgery was 10 weeks ago and I am happy to announce that, I AM ALIVE! It was a breeze. It doesn't last long, so you aren't even under the anesthesia that long. You will do fine.
