newly banded need encouragement

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new here I was banded on 9-2-08. My beginning weight was 231 and my current weight is 223. Tomorrow will be my 3 week anniversary and I'm kind of dissapointed that I've only lost 8 pounds. I know it is better than nothing and everything I've read says you should lose 1-2 pounds per week but I thought I would've lost more here in the beginning being on a liquid diet. Actually right now I'm not on a strict liquid diet I am eating small amounts of mushy food like boiled eggs and pinto Beans, since these are high in Protein. Any encouraging thoughts?

Also another question how do I get my weight loss ticker on here? I made one I just don't know which code to copy and where to paste it. Please help.

I was banded in March and (as you can see from my signature) I've only lost 15 pounds. Now, since my adjustment on Tuesday of last week I've lost another EIGHT and I think this will be my last fill! Keep up what you are doing. Have you have a first adjustment yet? If not, that's probably why you aren't losing. Are you getting in your 30 minutes of excercise every day? If not, start moving! You are doing just fine.

your averaging OVER 2 pounds a week! That is incredible! Especially since right after your surgery, you don't even have a fill yet! Thank your lucky stars that you are losing, cuz a lot of people don't until they get a fill, and some gain! You'll make it, I promise, just wait until you hit the ideal fill, and the pounds will drop quickly.

I think that around two pounds a week is great! That means that your body has time to keep up with the weight loss so I would get moving if you are not already doing so.

That also means that at two pounds per week that would be 104 pounds gone in a year!

I was banded on 8/25 and I've lost 16lbs. I thought I would have lost more by now too. But after reading everyone else's experiences I think it's perfectly normal. I think once you get going on your fills you'll lose alot faster. Keep your head up!

Jillian, are you logging your food intake at fitday or dailyplate? At this point, you probably aren't consuming enough calories. If possible you may want to try to get it up a little. You have probably been under, maybe WAY under, 1000 calories for a couple of weeks. Sometimes making the adjustment to get between 1000-1200 calories per day is enough to start weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
