Ok so I'm getting frustrated! I've been trying to make good choices with food while waiting to be banded. It's hard though cause everytime I'm faced with that decision I'm like "I should eat it while I can!".

I've always been the type I have to be FORCED into something that will help me lose weight. This is partly why I chose the lapband that even though it is a tool it will do part of the work. I am prepared to change my life I really want to, but there is that voice that says party it up with the food while you can. So have any of you that have been banded with success went through this? Cause I'm starting to worry the band won't help me. I need support, advice, and all of the above! LOL:)

I know a lot of people go through this before getting banded. Someone referred to it as "last supper syndrome", or sometimes a "Farewell to food" tour. I think the feeling like you're not going to be able to eat these foods anymore is what makes people do this, but truly and honestly - you WILL be able to eat the same kinds of foods even after banding! But hopefully with the right restriction - you'll be eating LESS of it. Knowing this in the back of my mind before being banded helped me to avoid the "last supper syndrome" too much, though I certainly wasn't perfect!

I don't think the fact that you are "saying goodbye" to certain food types will mean you won't succeed with the lap-band. I think you'll be able to do just fine! Just keep coming to the forums for more support. I always notice the more I read around here, the better I do. The longer I'm away from the forum, the more I stray from the lap-band way-of-life.. Goodluck with everything!

It's so funny you posted this. I went out with the girls on Friday. I planned to make very good food choices, but instead I ordered a loaded baked potato with my grilled chicken. I told them I would eat it while I could. I know that after the band, I might be able to eat that, but it would probably not be the best choice since I will be supposed to eat Protein and veggies before carbs. I enjoyed myself, but I didn't go overboard, and I feel okay about that.

Mary is right, don't think you never gonna have real food again because that is not the case at all.You will be able to have most anything as far as food goes you just have to earn it.What I mean by that is if you want

a small piece of cake or scoop of ice cream or a few chocolates you can,you just have to cut a few calories and walk another mile that day.Just don't buy a cake and take it home just have a slice at the restaurant or where you can just get a slice.

Well all your responses so far have me feel good! I think it's not necessarily the food but the amount!LOL! I feel like I'm already sabotaging my commitment to change and afraid I will end up regretting it! UGH why couldn't I have had a sooner surgery date?!:cursing:I feel bad about it and then again I don't cause I know I will be changing my habits soon and why not indulge a little while I can. I think I need a therapist!LOL

Hi there,

I understand what you are saying completely and I can tell you what I learned from therapy - the food will be there another day, it will not suddenly dissapear, we are not facing a famine - sounds silly but I have really had to think like that in order to help my mind understand it is ok to not eat it all

Good luck to you :)

I ate anything and everything that didn't eat me first when I made up my mind to have the surgery. Keep in mind, though, that it was less than 3 weeks from my consultation until my surgery, so I couldn't do THAT much damage. I didn't go overboard with amounts, but I didn't watch the foods that I ate. My "last supper" was the buffet at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi!

I was banded 10 weeks ago today, and I am doing fine. I have had icecream 4 times, each time one scoop only. If I eat tortilla chips with refried Beans, I count out 1 serving. I find that I can never finish even one serving. Before band, forget the counting, can we say HALF A BIG BAG?! I stop when I am full and I stay full for 3-4 hours. I still choose healthy food about 80% of the time. And no matter what I eat, it is about 1/3 of what I ate pre-band. I have lost 35 lbs, so I am ahead of the game, and I feel good about my band!:)

Don't worry as long as you are ready for the commitment. The band won't do it all for you, but when you get proper restriction, you will be satisfied with less food. Just make sure you eat slow and give your stomach time to realize you are full. Also, make good choices as much as possible. YOU DO NOT WANT TO OVEREAT AND RISK BEING SICK! Sorry, for yelling.

Hi all. This is my first post. My consultation was three weeks ago and my surgery is October 3rd, four days from now. What I've done is cut my portion size down to a side plate. I'm on my pre-op diet and taking in a lot less food. I've been contemplating the "last supper" but have stayed on course. It's helped alot to see, in various posts here, that I don't have to give up the foods I love forever. :thumbup:Thanks to all of you for pointing that out.

Hi all,

I just want to add one little thing. I had to do a two week liquid diet, so the night before I went to my favorite barbaque place for all you can eat ribs....As funny as it sounds, I did not enjoy it. Therefor, I did not over eat. I dont know what the deal was.

Being almost 10 months since I started my journey, I can truely say that I could probably eat anything I wanted. With the exception on Bread.. I can not do bread. The Weird thing is... "and this is my little thing to add" Your wants change, food that I would have died for before the band... does not apeal to me now. I work hard when out eating to make very good choices, you can do it.. it just takes looking over EVERY single thing on the menu. You will find things there you didnt know was on there. The only thing I really miss, that I can not do is soda. I was a die-hard diet cherry coke gal, and I just can not do the carbonation. I have tried opening it and letting it sit... everything. it just makes me sick ;-(

Good luck to all of you. Stay with the band rules, and know that you dont have to give up everything.

Lois

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
