I'm three months post op. I recently had a fill 9/9/2008 and thought I felt a little tight. I could still drink liquids so I wasn't too much worried about it. I hadn't had any serious problems post-op and I felt that I had the hang of this LAP BAND.

Well I went out with a friend to the Sizzler to have clam chowder. It was soo good and hot. The heat relaxed some of the restriction I was feeling and I got carried away. I started to eat kinda fast. Not really chewing cause I felt there wasn't much to chew. Before I knew it I ate the whole thing. It took 5 mins before I felt the effect. It felt like a bubble was forming in my chest, real slow. My breathing started to feel slightly labored. My friend looked at me and asked if I was alright. I said no. I told him I was gonna walk around. My old faithful way of walking to dislodge whatever was stuck, was not working. I eventually went to the bathroom and suddenly my mouth was watering perfusely. Is this slimming??? OMG am I gonna throw up???? Well to make a long story short and not so graphic, I threw up 4 times. The 4th time I was infront of emergency about to walk in. I never felt so awful. Emergency didn't do anything for me cause I felt 10 times better. I am so careful now of what I eat, how I eat, how fast I eat. Cause i don't want that to ever happen again.

What was your experience like of getting stuck and what worked for you?

Oh i know how you feel. It was 4 days after my first fill. I went over my granny's and she made pork tenderloin. When i ate earlier that day i was fine and when i started to feel hungry again i went to finish my plate. Well the piece that i had on my plate was a lil dry and i dont think that i chewed the piece well enough. OMG the pressure in my chest was sooo bad. My mom knew that i was feeling bad. i too tried to walk around to get it down, but that didnt work. Lets just say i felt better after i threw up 3 times.

Now...i chew chew chew, and leave dry meat alone.

chicken is very tough on the band, but if you eat before you really get hungry you wont try to eat as fast. Even now when I am starving, and I call myself throwing down on some "soup" lol it will come back up, and then I no longer want to eat anything.

last night I had my first experience of being "stuck" but I wasn't sure if I was really stuck because I couldn't throw up! It was so painful. My chest hurt and when I tried to drink warm tea to loosen the band, it hurt even more because I could feel the tea trying to squeeze through. I'm glad to know a person can be stuck and still not be able to throw up. thanks for the post. I feel reassured. Now I don't have to call the doctor or go to the emergency room when this happens. I know it's normal and I'll have to just get throught it.

OMG !!!!! this brings back memories, some not too long ago lol, yes I don't think you've really Christened the band until you've been stuck ...... lol, when the Dr. and staff say "Listen" to your band that's exactly what you quickly learn to do after being stuck whether it's your 1st or 4th time experiencing it , lol keep up the good work all.

I had been stuck a few times eating Peanut Butter and wheat bread, but after a few moments it would go down. The first time I got stuck and actually vomited, was at Denny's. I had eaten hash browns before, as long as they were crunchy, and only a little bit. Well this time they were softer, but I figured it would be okay. Was I wrong!!! I ate a few bites, ate a bite of scrambled eggs, and chewed, and sat there. Unfortunately, my bite was kind of salty and instead of waiting, I drank some Water - BIG mistake. Soft potatoes get puffy with water, and that's exactly what happened. My husband was like are you okay and I was like no it hurt soooo bad. I raised my arms and stretched, didn't work. I walked around, didn't work. About 5 mins later the sliming started - salivating to no end - and I went to the bathroom. Took a few seconds for it to come up, but it did and it hurt, but afterwards I felt so much better! Unfortunately although I was really hungry, I no longer had an appetite and just drank water. But I never want to feel that pain again!

I'm sorry you've all gone through those stuck episodes, but thanks for sharing how it happened and the results. I'm still so new and learning. I haven't had my first fill yet, so I'm still very loose.

I did buy a bottle of Papaya/Pineapple supplements in case I get stuck. How much do they help, and do they work for something that's not a Protein like bread?

I did not EVEN have to wait for a fill b4 I learned the HARD way. I had my surgery Setp. 15, 08 and LAST night my irish setter ate the supper I had fixed......she can use her hands to pull things, even from the BACK of stove where they are cooling......at any rate, husband went out for Greek chicken....so..... 25 more mins. and I was shakey-hungry....I GOBBLED it ( the leg and part of thiegh) down and a small salad, w/ 2 bites left to go, it started.........the golf ball in chest, etc.......I walk & walked and finally, GROSS, barely put finger in throat, and the last two PERFECT bites came right up....INSTANT relief.......and this was w/ NO restriction in band...........Be afraid, be VERY afraid, this thing means business! TOTALLY MY fault!

 Joy

OH I feel everybody's pain. Today I have had my worse "stuck" episode to date. Yes I have had a few of them. I ate 2 pieces of beef pot roast. Let's just say, I don't want to see roast again. I have never felt pain like that in my life, and I've had a C-Section, lol. I literally thought that I was gonna stop breathing. I was so scared. I began sliming all over the place :tt2:. I walked, I stretched, and tried to burp. No end to the pain. Tears ran down my face:cry_smile:. I tried to drink Water, but the roast did not let the water down. Approximately 5 mins into it, I tried to cough......No need to get graphic, you know what happened next . Instant relief......:thumbup:So just a little reminder to my banded peeps...CHEW, CHEW, CHEW, CHEW, AND EAT SLOWLY.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
