okay, as soon as I'm done dealing with this piece of stuck chicken, I'll see if I can dig up the thread we had on this when the article first came out

Vine, is this the same Lisa that was on the talk show? Is this the original article? I don't have time to read it but will tonight. Thanks, D!

Yep, this is Lisa Sohr again, the one from The View. She was pictured on the cover of New York Magazine when this article appeard in print; this is just the online version of the mag.

I'm waiting for her book. :rolleyes

Or mabye the movie? Too bad they didn't go more into the lap-band on the View, especially when the other person's sister died from bypass surgery. Another opportunity missed. Oh well, I guess we're used to it by now.

Okay so I finally got a chance to read the entire article. It's pretty good actually as they cover a couple people other than that Lisa Sohr. It's a shame she's the banded one in that article because she comes off sort of snotty. The other two people they profile had bypass and they have a lot of really great things to say. Whereas Lisa Sohr seems focused on how great she looks, the other two women were more about how it's changed their outlook on life.

Big thing I took from it was a reminder to myself that losing weight will not solve all my problems. It is a change inside of me that will help me feel better but will not make my job less crappy and will not make my dating life any easier and it will not make all my other non-weight related problems any easier.

Bravo Karen! Most people haven't made the connection yet. I don't care what weight-loss method you are trying to use, whether it is Bob's Amazing Diet Pill or WLS... losing weight will not change anything, fix anything, except for health issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
