Protein Drink Suggestions

I'm thinking this may a repetitive post, but I wanted to maybe post a fresh one so newly banded people would see it and be able to put their 2cents in.

I am getting ready to go to the Vitamin Cottage (Natural Grocers) or GNC - whichever - to buy my Protein supplements. I need three weeks worth, that includes my post-op liquids and mushies.

I would love to hear which drinks and powders everyone used. I need a "tasteless" Protein powder as well as Water and milk based liquids and additional powders. I would love a variety, so I don't get tired of a specific supplement.

What is your favorite, and least favorite? Any tips are so welcome, I already heard from my lovely MI-illusion that OJ and vanilla Protein Powder tastes like creamsicles!

Can't wait to hear, thanks guys.

I bought a variety of Protein powders before I was banded. I really wish I hadn't because out of the 5 products I bought I only liked two, and the two I liked were the same product, just different flavors.

I bought Isopure--heavy Protein taste, hate it! Also got Syntrax Necter Iced tea--so disgusting, smells like heavy elastic; my dietician thinks it smells like vomit, I agree. I also bought the protein bullets, the name escapes me at the moment--- they were expensive, they weren't that bad but they didn't fill me up like a Protein shake, I used one bullet out of a box of 12. I can't beleive how much money I wasted! I would have had more fulfilment lighting my $150 on fire.

What I did like was Designer whey chocolate mixed with milk. I also got the strawberry, which is okay.

What I suggest is just finding a good chocolate shake you like, then buy different shakes if you get bored.

I'm at about 8 weeks post-op and I went down to one shake a day at about 2 weeks and at about four weeks I discontinued the shakes because I can easily eat enough protein. I just have an Atkins Advantage shake probably every other day when I'm in a hurry or don't feel like eating.

Doesn't your doctor prefer a specific brand? Mine did.

They recommended the bullets and talked about Isopure, but they stressed "variety" so I figured I'd come to you guys. What kind did your Dr recommend Restless?

I bought a lot of the Protein bullets, too. They taste ok going down, but the aftertaste is awful. It tastes the way that cardboard smells, if that makes any sense. Now I have 4 cases of that stuff just sitting around. I finally made some protein Jello with one bottle. I guess I will see if it still has the same aftertaste. I wish that I had purchased a small amount of several in order to find the ones I like, instead of buying in bulk first. NOT a smart move (not that I have EVER been accused of being smart).

l profer the Vanillia Isopure...l don't think it has any taste, other than vanillia...you can mix all sorts of extracts into it as well as banana and berries...the chocolate tastes just like chocol;ate milk that you would buy at the supermarket all ready made...l have tried many through this process and only recoomond isopure..l buy through NUTRITIONGEEKS.comthe cheapest around..Good luck though..

I don't care for the "milkshake" type drinks at all. What I prefer is a fruity type drink, and I really love the Syntrax Nectar powder. There are a number of flavors, and I mix them with different flavors of Crystal Light to add even more variety. They don't leave any aftertaste for me, either. LOVE them.

My doc strongly suggested we use EAS Carb Control AdvantEDGE shakes and so that's what I have. They aren't that good but honestly I've done shakes of one type or another for years and to me NONE of them are good. When I'm hungry I want food not a sweet gicky drink. When I want a shake I want a SHAKE like from sonic or Chick Fil A, not Slim Fast! LOL So I am not a connisseur and would really rather pass on all of them!

Where do you get these?

I bought Profressional Strength whey Protein from Walmart and it's gross. I went to GNC yesterday to get the Designer Whey and they were out. Guess I should have gone to another store. My surgery is next mon so I'm trying to figure out what to have on hand as well. Let me know if you try any you like.

OK, my initial consult is tomorrow, my 49th birthday. I can already tell you girls(guys?) are where to go for the 411 on this process. Any suggestions on one specific question you wish you had asked at the onset?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
