hello All.. Just found this website while browsing. My partner and I are both doing the LB. I work from home but she works retail. How long is recovery to feel like you are able to work? Im more worried about her than me as I can just go to office and get on pc to work.

We are just waiting on the Insurance approval and then scheduling. I saw someones comments about prepping their bowels??? pls explain..sounds um interesting..hehe

Thanks Jules

Each surgeon is different and the one you choose can give tips to your partner about how quickly his/her patients usually recover etc. They all have different styles and spins...many different things can impact recovery. I'd think she'd need at least a week or more, depending on what type of retail. If she has to lift heavy stuff, more than 2 weeks.

Bowel prep is a liquid (my hospital uses magnesium citrate) you use to clean out your intestines so that you don't have any issues during surgery. Some docs don't require it if you are just having the lap band, but most do. It isn't fun and really not interesting either (unless you like that kind of thing LOL) but most of us have to do it!

Congratulations to you both. I can only speak for myself. I am a massage therapist and I was back to work 2 days after surgery (seeing a couple of people a day) and back to full time in a week. I am so happy I have the band and love the feeling of freedom from the extra weight. You Dr. should be able to guide you about recovery but mine was so easy.

Blessings,

Sally

Thanks ! We will probably schedule a couple of weeks apart. So that we can take care of each other and not rush.

Any suggestions of what sites to visit to order the shakes from? I want to go ahead and order some to be ready.

I think each doc has a different preop diet, too! (you'll learn, if you nose around here, that the surgeons don't ever seem to agree on ANYTHING! LOL) My surgeon had a very specific shake, EAS CarbControl AdvantEDGE he wanted me to use. Some docs use Optifast, some slim fast, others say NEVER use slim fast, etc etc...and then a few poor souls are supposed to use skimmed milk and make their own. Until you know what your surgeon recommends, and unless you just like Protein shakes (they are better than mag citrate but still nothing to get excited about LOL) wait and see what special thing YOUR doc wants!

And if you two get your surgeries like, a week apart, then your diets will be pretty similar. It's hard to be on liquids when someone else can eat and it sounds like you are a team (my Dh and I are that way)...again, your doc can give you some guidance.

Good luck. Your lives are both about to change so much, for the better! You must both be pretty excited!

Yes we are very excited. Both of us see our sibs, parents etc.. overweight and not happy.

My doc says powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury from www.unjury.com

but yes I believe the Docs are in for a kickback on specific brands..etc.

Thanks for all the feedback!

goodnite.

Jules

I've seen Unjury here....some people have posted about it. Once I get restriction I'll be nosing around for a Protein supplement, I think...and so may give the "unflavored" one a try. i'm too sick of chicken broth and chocolate to even think about them right now! :rolleyes2:

Good luck to both of you! :girl_hug:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
