Getting Stuck

Recommended Posts

I had my second fill last week and since then, my food is getting stuck all the time. (My first fill was last month and I didn't have much restriction.) Now, I have lots of restriction. Maybe too much??? I am not PB'ing or sliming, but food gets stuck at almost every meal and it really hurts. Is this normal after a fill? I am trying to eat slowly and chew better and it seems to help. Just didn't know if this is normal, or should I ask my doc for a little unfill? :girl_hug:

You sound like me! I was banded June 11th. My first fill did nothing for me. I had my second one and it was like, "hello, restriction!" I couldn't eat anything without it getting a little stuck and hurting in the chest. Breads were the worst. I actually threw up a few times with bread products. I was wondering if I was too tight, and should I get a slight unfill? It was painful to eat!

Then, three weeks after that second fill (a little over a week ago) the restriction mellowed out over the course of a few days. It doesn't hurt to eat any more. Bread still gets a little stuck, but I can actually eat it now. Everything else is going down fine and I can eat way more than I'm supposed to.

For the first 3 weeks after that second fill, I thought I was going to call and cancel my appointment for my 3rd fill. Boy am I glad I didn't! I am ready for that 3rd fill now. So you might seem a little tight now, but in a few weeks things could loosen up a little. That's just my experience. You might end up being different though.

It WILL take you time to recalibrate how fast you eat, how much you chew, and how easy it goes down.

Periodically we all make 'errors of eating' and something too dry, too fibrous, too unchewed, etc, will create a little pain right near the Band site. Bandsters often describe the same sensation in widely different terms: "heart pain"; "chest pain"; etc.

You are at those times very close to having something stick in the Band.

You will learn how to avoid the problem most of the time.

I completely agree with jack... Im 18mths post op and still have a slip up every once in a while.....

but were just human and are supposed to learn from our mistakes!!!

p.s. by the way bread is a major no no for me... and i have some issues with rice and Pasta as well.. but could handle it in small quantities

Thanks everyone for your responses! I am learning to eat slower and chew better. The last couple of days have been ok for me.

I was banded on 9/12 and my Dr. also said no to bread. And quite honestly I am afraid to even try it. But you say that toast is okay? Hmm, maybe I will ask him if eventually I can have it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
