hiatal hernia's

Recommended Posts

Hi! Had my lap band in March 2006.Had to have a CT Scan about 6 months ago (unrelated to the band) & was told I have a hiatal hernia. Before I knew this info.,I realized I was having trouble eating ANYTHING.(even mushy stuff) Now, I believe it's the hernia. Anybody out there have a similar experince?

I had one before that was fixed with banding, but have never heard of someone developing one post banding. Will they be able to do a repair? Are you still having problems eating?

I had a significant hiatal hernia prior to banding but never suffered a single symptom. They affect everyone differently. I am not sure if it would affect your ability to eat, but whether it does or does not affect it you may need a slight unfill if mushies are a problem.

I was told after my endoscopy today that I had a 4 cm hiatal hernia and that the surgeon would repair on my surgery date for lap banding (sept 29), was recovery any harder since you had the hernia repaired? any additional problems?

I didnt have additional problems other than my surgery was a little longer than the others and I was a little slower to recover post surgery, however the slow recovery time may have just been me and not the hernia repair, who knows?

After surgery, I had severe neck and shoulder pain that last a few weeks. It was more than just gas and was unpleasant . . . but that also passed as well and I am doing great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
