I only took a week off. The surgeaon and nurse told me that some people return to work after 3-4 days, but he recommends at least a week. Some of the reasons he recommends a week are becuse (1) you just had surgery..outpatient surgery..but it is still surgery (2) you will be on pain meds and (3) everyoen responds differntly to anesthesia.

To tell you the truth, I took a week off but I probably could hae gone back to work in 4 days. The only indication that I had even had surgery was the occasional slight "twinge" of pain i would get if i slept funny. I was given one of those big amber colored bottles of Loritab pain medication. The bottle had 300ml in it. When that week was over I still had over 200 ml of it left. Lord knows I am not looking that gift horse in the mouth. From reading what some of the other people on here write, I truly expected to be in a lot of pain. I happily was not. I stayed out a week becasue I was tired all hell. I think between lettign the affects of surgery/anesthesia wear off and the occasional dose of pain meds I would take all I did was drink my clear fluids, sleep, and pee.

Actually, drink, sleep, pee and stand in front of the mirror and stare at my itty bitty incsision. I was just in disbelief that I had surgery. It took me over a month to coem to grips with the fact that I had gotten banded.

But everyone is different. I say take at least a week off. You may not be in pain, but you will be at least groggy/tired.

I had surgery on Sept 5th and I am still off... will be off next week too.

I am a commuter on a vanpool and wanted to make sure that I am 100% before I return. I am good but I had the time so... it was a good time to take it.

I had surgery on a Tuesday and had planned to go back that next Monday. I did not go back until the next Tuesday. I actually wish I had two weeks off. Not because of pain but because by two weeks you will be ready for soft foods and have adjusted to the idea that you just had surgery.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I plan to take at least a week off (more if my job will let me). I would rather have 2 weeks to heal and also to get used to this new part of me. I don't want to be at work learning how to eat. That could turn into an ugly situation, especially if I get sick. They took away all of our garbage cans where I work, and the closest bathroom is on the other side of the building. :girl_hug:

I had my surgery on Sept 22. I got back to work on October 6. For me, I knew that recovery would take a minute. It's just one of the caveats of age I guess.

I will be having surgery on 29 October and taking 2 weeks off. I work in child care and the last thing I want to do is run around after children all day on a liquid diet.< /p>

Well, now that I have had surgery, I am actually taking 4 weeks off. I work in the telecommunications field which can be physical. My short term benefits kicked in after 7 calendar days.

I am talking 2 wks of vacation days, although I'm told you only need about a week. I have a lot of days to use before losing them at end of year, so I'm taking on this opportunity.

I sit for most of the day and periodically have to walk people to different areas of the facility during the day (which I will certainly be glad to get that walking in after surgery). If I had physical duties, I would have taken 3-4 wks.

Good Luck

I was just banded on Tuesday, and I'm going back to work on Monday. I had a really uneventful surgery and I feel great, just a little sore. Of course, everyone is different. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
