My Feelings were Hurt!!

Recommended Posts

Okay,

I am shopping in Wal-Mart yesterday and this little old white lady walked up to me smiling. I smiled back and tried to go passed her. She then stopped me and said "you look like you are a good cook, can you tell me how to make cabbage rolls". I laughed at her, informed her that although I am fat, I can't cook at all and walked off. However, it hurt my feelings. I mean, I aint that big. I had to gain weight to get the lap band approval. But dang, that hurt.

Wow. I can't believe some of the things strangers will say! I'm sure that she wasn't trying to be ugly, but people kill me assuming things about larger people. :girl_hug: I wish you could have come up with some type of snappy come back to let her know just how inappropriate that type of assumption was.

First of all what the heck is a cabbage roll?

I mean I know food but that one has stumped me.

Secondly, that lady was just stereotyping you all the way. May be you should have said "no I can't make cabbage rolls, but I am famous for my pancakes. Perhaps you have seen my picture on the box?"

I just have to ask. which Walmart were you in?

When is your surgery date? I haven't heard from you in a while. How's it going?

That's the kind of response that I wish would come to me during the situation. Instead, I think of all kinds of great come backs when I get home! grrrrr! Some people can be so stupid!:girl_hug: You should have made up a recipe and gave it to her. It would serve her right for assuming you could cook because of either your size or your color.

Oh I'm so sorry! I want to tell you not to giver her that power over you. You don't know her, she doesn't know you, don't give her the power to hurt your feelings. That whole thing was just weird! If she wants to make cabbage rolls, then she can walk her butt over to the book section and buy a dang cookbook!!!!

BTW, cabbage rolls are usually cooked cabbage leaves stuffed with a cooked meat/rice mixture of some sort (there are TONS of variations) and baked in the oven with Tomato sauce over it. They're really good but time consuming.

Slim I see you have 4 days left! I know you are super excited

I am so excited that I am losing my mind (not that I had much to lose to begin with). I have been driving myself and my family crazy. I am ready for surgery to come!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
