Wow I am really glad I don't have ANY restriction yet! I'd be scared, too!

Are you chewing well, small bites, and not drinking with your meals per your surgeons orders? If you are, I think you need to call the office and go in...they "may" have filled you some during surgery and it may be too much!

If you chewed too fast or whatever, just try to learn from the "mistake" and don't do it any more.

Either way, I think if you go back to Clear Liquids for 24-48 hours and give your inflamed esophagus and tummy a chance to settle down, you SHOULD be ok. But if you are following all the rules and still PB'ing and never had a fill, call your doc tomorrow, ok?

i followed all the rule . was having cottage cheese ... small bites , chewing well , taking time ... still .... anyway i have seen the video of my surgery and I did not see the doctor doing a fill and he told me after surgery that we will fill later . anyway I have prolem getting a lot of foodstuffs down . I end up having pain in my chest while trying to swallow and then I can literally feel the food go down . That scares me a lot ... what happens when the pouch stretches

Luckytolose...I feel real empathy for you! Bless your heart. Call your surgeon tomorrow. They should have some tips for you! You've had your band almost 3 months now and if your PB'ing has been mostly within that last 6 weeks of the 12 weeks (make sense?) I'm sure you haven't caused your band to slip. It should stand up to some of that ... it kind of goes with the territory! So don't worry about that part, but do call your surgeon. You need to be able to get nutrition and I'm sure you didn't sign up to drink nasty Protein shakes the rest of your life! Until tomorrow though, go back to Clear Liquids and let your tummy calm down, ok?

And MissBubba: PB means "productive burp" which is what many bandsters call it when you swallow something that gets stuck and for whatever reason (fullness, too large, whatever) doesn't go on through the top tummy, stoma (hole created by band) into the larger lower tummy portion. When it sits there it can't go down and so comes back up. Very uncomfortable.... your esophagus spasms, you produce lots of thick mucous they call "slime" and out comes the food.

I think everyone is different. I pb quite frequently even after 3 fills and 9 months later. Mine tends to be more what I eat and not really amounts. Dr. Snow is not concerned so I am not. The mucus causes me trouble at least once a day but after that I am good. Even with the "attacks" I have had I have only had 4 or 5 violent bouts. Let me know if you need more specific in my case.

Restless Monkey, thanks for the lesson. I actually had one of those a week or so ago, but didn't know it had a name. It was painfull, but must have been a minor one as it passed quicly and I only brought up the slime part. I'll consider myself lucky and hope I don't have anymore.

Mrs. Bubba I hope it's something that I can describe but NEVER experience. The thought of going around urking my food 3-4 times a day leaves me cold. My doc says if I feel that way it's a good indicator I won't have to. I hope he's right! My motto is "NO PB" LOL

There is no real delicate way to ask, but if it is your TOM, some people say that their band is tighter during that time. That would make a little sense if you are since you haven't had a fill. I would call the doctor though if you are concerned. I hope you feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
