steri-strips question?????

Recommended Posts

OK, one week banded!!!! Yeah, I survived that first week . I found out I am a real wimp cause I have been in quite a bit of pain up to day five or six. still not feeling like a million bucks or anything so hats off to all of you who are back at work three days out. LOL... that's not me!!!!

OK, the question.....

how long do the stri-strips take to start peeling off? i have showered several times, bathed once, and seven days out, they aren't even turning up at the corners. I think they are super-glued to my skin (just kidding..). shouldn't they be peeling off soon?

As for other one week stuff.....no hunger at all. In fact, I am having to make myself drink broth and protien drinks. feeling no hunger at all. having no problem sipping all my Water though. I am down 20 pounds from pre-op diet and this week. 10 from pre-op diet, 10 from this week. although I think most must be Fluid cause I can't see where 20 pounds is missing from anywhere!!! LOL.

anyone?

I just don't know if I should take the strips off if they don't start to come off soon or just leave them alone. I thought I remembered people talking about scabs and such at 7-10 days ..... I still have the strips but it looks a little wet under there, no sign of the strips coming off or of scabs.

I had steri-strips a lot when I had another abdominal surgery. You need to ask your doctor what to do. I was told shower, no baths, pat dry, and he wound up taking them off at my re-check. All docs have different protocals, so you really need to ask him/her.

Mine were like yours....I thought they would never come off. It took about 10 days and when the corners started coming up I couldn't help myself...I had to mess with them until they came off. By then the incisions were pretty much healed.

Mine did the same thing. It took forever and I think the last one didn't fall off for 2.5 weeks! I would just leave them alone for now.

same thing for mine also. My incisions did not bother me at all but

i haave sens. skin and the steri strips made me break out.

I could not stand it any longer and finally started peeling them off myself. My dr said it was fine after i told him what I had done...

Mine come off in hospital - but the nurses said to take them off because they don't like to leave them on now.... It is amazing the different things we get told from different doctors etc!

I took mine off the next day after surgery. No one advised me what to do and they looked nasty and a bit bloody so I got rid of them right away so that I could feel more sterile. It did not seem to matter.

I was a wimp too, and didn't feel well for about 10 days. Don't worry abot it. Everyone is different. We can be wimps if we want to!

Good luck on your weight loss goal.

Mine actually started falling off Tues of this week. (9 days post-op). Since then they have been coming off a few a day. I think I have about 5 or 6 left. When my first one come off, it wasn't completly sealed so I was told to cover it with a band-aid. It's doing better now.

I didn't start feeling better actaully yesterday was a very good day for me. I started back to work part time on Tues.

My doctor requires a 2 week post op appt. So I go this coming monday...then once a month.

I was the same as you eating when not being hungry but around Wed I found that I don't get as full with what I eat. So I am really trying to concentrate on the Protein right now. I see the dietician today so I am hoping she will help me out.

Good Luck...seems like we were banded @ the same time. June 13th for me. :-)

Down 25 pounds so far (from first visit with the Dr.)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
