TraumaNurse 1 Posted June 22, 2005 Ok, weird and funny question........... Has anyone had an experience with setting off security machines??? The other night at work a security guard was playing around with the "wand"(a device to check patients for sharps/weapons) I "beeped" directly over my port!! I did not have any other source of metal on me.... I do not carry a card or anything stating that I have an implanted medical device, what will happen when I go through customs at the airport??? Guess I may just be the next headlines on the nightly news *lol* "Massachusetts women, held for questioning after abdominal region positive for questionable material" *lmao* ~Christina~
gtera 0 Posted June 22, 2005 I have heard of someone being held for questioning for setting off the metal detector at the airport recently. I was fortunate enough to receive a card that states I've had the surgery and have a metal port in my chest. But my surgery was in Holland, maybe that's the difference, I don't know. But believe me, it is possible. I know the guy that set of the detector at the airport was pulled to the side and asked questions. They did eventually let him go thru. leatha_g 4 Posted June 22, 2005 I travel on a weekly basis and I have never once set off the security machines. If you have an Inamed band, you could probably ask Don Mills to send you a card or two. donmills@inamed.com
TraumaNurse 1 Posted June 23, 2005 Thank you for the email address Leatha. I will ask if it's possible to obtain a card.. ~Christina~
TraumaNurse 1 Posted June 23, 2005 I just sent an e-mail to the address for don mill, but it bounced back.. Off to check their website
Infaith 1 Posted June 23, 2005 I'm not doubting you...it just sounds so weird! My sister and I both have bands (she's an airline stewardess!) and we didn't have problems coming back from Mexico.
BlondieB 0 Posted June 23, 2005 I beeped going through the dectector at DFW Airport, got pulled aside, wanded and was telling the girl what it was and she was like "oh how's that working, my mom's been thinking bout having that done" LOL. On my way back, I didn't set off the detector in Vegas. Think it just kinda depends. The chick at dfw said the card didn't really matter cause they had to follow procedure and wand and pat down. Guest cutiekatrush Posted June 24, 2005 This question was brought up at the seminar I went to this week and according to Dr. Pinnar the port will not usually set off the big metal detector that you walk through, but will set off the wands that they scan you with!
