a few more steps down

Recommended Posts

Well I got my psych eval, and my nutrition appt done. A lot simpler than I expected. Next friday I go for my steps to success class. From there on Oct 1 I do 2 more tests. RMR and H pylori test.

Time seems to fly.

Any idea when your surgery date will be? I know what an H. pylori test is, but what is RMR?

No I have no Idea. But as soon as all the steps are done they will put it into medicare. They told me it is pretty fast. RMR is resting Metabolic Rate. I was the same way until I asked. They are doing the upper GI on October 8th I think. Then I should be done with all the things I have to do.

Ok once you have that RMR test will you post and tell me what they did to achieve it? I know you can calculate it with weight, age, height, sex, and activity level (and in face I have several bookmarked places that do just that) but as to a test? Did NOT know they did that. How cool! Don't forget to post, will you? or private message me?

And...GOOD LUCK! It is so exciting!

yes I will, all I know for sure is it has to be 4 hour fasting. And no coffee, which may be hard for me, not really, but I do love my cup of Java in the morning. My appt is 10:30 so will get up early to eat my Breakfast and take my pills... Whooppee....I am wondering when they will start me on the preop diet or whatever they call it. My steps to success class is next Friday, will learn more then.

The RMR was today, they had me lay back for 10 min then I had to blow into a machine from my mouth, to make sure you do this they have a cute little thing that clips your nose shut. My RMR came out as 3% lower than normal, I could have sworn that my metabolic rate would be slower than that. Oh well I guess we all like to think that our matabolism is really really slow. My H Pylori is a OK!! So the 15th I go for my upper GI, and I plan to go to my group meeting on Oct. 6th, then, they can get my paerwork off to Medicare.

Soon soon I hope...i bought some of the Protein Shake stuff so i could start on it for breakfast. I will start the 1st week of Pre-op Special Diet..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
