Post-Op Headache... HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi. I had my surgery yesterday and now I have a bad headache. I feel great except for this. Gas pain.. not bad...sorness in incision area... not bad. I'm drinking lots of fluids.... more?? You'd think with all of the pain meds I'm taking, that it would go away, but it hasn't. Anyone else with this problem?? Any suggestions?? Becky

I also had a bad headache after my surgery. I was in a hotelroom in Denver with my daughter who was to have surgery the next day. MY pain meds wouldnt touch it so a chewed up a few Ibuprofin and that took care of it. The Dr. was totaly fine with that. If you have a pill cutter use that and then take it with Water. You are having enough other discomfort to have to deal with a headache as well.

Thank you for your reply lizzieann!! I did take liquid Tylenol and it hasn't helped yet. Only took one dose. I'm glad you said taht your doctor was ok with ibuprofin ... after I took it, I was afraid that I shouldn't have. Frustrating. I am supposed to get a call from someone at the surgical center tomorrow and I will ask. I'm glad yours went away. I too am in a hotel.. and as you can see... still awake. Thanks again!!!! Becky

I had a terrible headache as well for a couple of days, but it was definitely due to caffeine withdrawal. I was drinking a couple of cups of coffee and diet pop daily before banding . . . then I drank nothing but Water and Protein Shakes. I had to live with it until a few days later it worked is way through my system.

Thanks Heather and Restless. I quit drinking coffee when I started my pre-op diet (about the 20th of August) and hardly ever drank carbonated caffine beverages. Coffee and tea are on my clear liquid diet (wk. 1), so I made myself a cup of hot tea and drank more Water and I THINK my headace is gone. I can drink hot tea without cream, but don't like coffee without it. I have also found that peppermint tea has really helped with the gas pain in my shoulder and tummy, which hasn't been too bad so far. I'm feeling much better! Again... thank you for your help. You guys are the greatest. Becky

It could be the pain meds.....

I had vicodin when I had melanoma removed. The headache from that was worse than the cancer! (which is gone and has not returned, thank God.)

Me again.

Sorry, sorry, sorry...I am NOT inferring that a headache is worse than cancer.

Please forgive my failed efforts at being "funny."

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
