Went to have my first fill yesterday and it turns out my large incision is infected! So now I'm antibiotics until Thursday 09/25.... I hope it hurries up and heals.... if it does then I get to have my first fill on 09/25. I'm 28 days post-op and 16 lbs down. I'm happy with my weight loss but, sometimes I just can't help but feel like I made the wrong decision by having the LapBand surgery.... I don't know....

None, it was just a scab and then I started putting mederma on it and that went away and a little bit of Fluid was coming out but it didn't smell or anything. My doctor said the infection was underneath the scab

Wow that's scary! Did he give you an antibiotic or something? What a nightmare! Good thing he found it though!

Ok DUH I just read you are on antibiotics until 9/25! LOL sorry I have a cold and apparently my brain is taking a little nap.

Take all your antibiotics on time and I'll cross my fingers it clears up quickly for you! I hope MINE aren't infected underneath. That's just weird.

Yeah, he gave me an oral antibiotic that I have to take twice a day and he said to keep putting Neosporin on it.

I'm sorry for you! one of mine was trying to get infected but my husband is a nurse and he's been cleaning it out and "treating" it so it's healing up now. It's not uncommon for us larger people to have problems just because of the stress on the wounds, but your infection "under the scab" is the first time I've ever heard of that. When I shower tonight I'm going to mash all mine! LOL

I am sorry to hear you have an infection. I am glad that it is being treated and you will heal now. As Restless says, take all you medicine and it will get better. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I certainly can't offer any help. My surgery was on September 9th and my fill isn't until the 24th but when you said you were starting to feel like it wasn't the right thing to do.... well, I'm wondering the same thing myself. I want to be healthy, but all of this "small bites, chew on it forever, wait 3 minutes, don't eat this, oh you can eat that , and another thing...DONT drink" (but even with following the rules your food still might come back up anyways!!) ugh..... will it be possibe to sit down and enjoy a meal??

Suzking...most restrictions are only initially, to allow the band time to heal. And of course you aren't going to lose weight it you drink milkshakes and eat Cookies all day! (you know that of course!) Small bites and chewing will take a little getting used to but many people say they find they enjoy the food more now than they ever did when they could scarf anything down. I don't know what the "wait 3 minutes" thing is...I was told chew each small bite 20-30 times and to stop eating in 30 minutes. Not everyone vomits/slimes/PBs. And not drinking while eating is no big deal....I have no restriction yet but find that very easy (and I loved my iced tea with my supper; it's been a staple in my life for about 48 of my 53 years) WHILE I am losing I will watch my choices carefully and make sure I get enough Protein (because I do NOT want my body to pull it from muscle, including my heart...which my body would do to get it if I don't eat it) and once I have adapted and lost, I'll be eating mostly like I always used to, just less. I'm sure you researched and made a good decision before you got the band, don't let negative feelings (especially ones that are not based in fact!) grind you down. Most people have little to no issues...

most people don't mind chewing well and not drinking because they really enjoy their food more, most people lose well and feel great. You need to give the band (and yourself) a fair chance.

Thanks restless monkey... that was a nice pick -me- up, just when I needed it. I read somewhere that you are suppose to wait 3 minutes between each bite of food. That's what I was refering to. To be honest I have found more information on this website then I had before surgery, I guess I thought it would be easier than this but I think I'll be ok. I am an extreme overeater and I think once that ability was taken from me then my mind started to panic. Of course it's like any other addiction it takes time and commitment. But I have 3 children that I want to be around a long time for, so I'll make the adjustments and I'll be ok. Thank you so much for your kind words.

Just chill out and I know you'll be fine. I never heard 3 minutes; so if I were you I'd shoot for the 20-30 good chews. And of course you want small bites of things like meat, chicken etc but you will learn what you have to do to eat properly. They told us "be gentle with yourself. Think how long it took you to learn to eat when you were a child; you are re-learning everything. Give yourself time and use patience"...good advice I think!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
