Being banded in KY Oct.24

Recommended Posts

I have not posted much. It is now time to get in gear. I am getting nervous and excited. Dr. Weiss in Mayfield KY is my surgeon.

The longer I wait the more I read, some good and not so good. It can make a body confused. I am ready!!! Kathy

Well, it's important to be educated even if it does make you a little nervous...but that's natural. 90%+ of the people on this board would have the surgery again in a heartbeat....so that's a VERY good sign.

Good luck to you and welcome to LBT!

ktravel...you need to realize, too, that a lot of people who don't have issues etc don't post here...they are out getting thinner! I too felt a little horror at first but my surgeon helped calm me down, plus I read a few books about the band and found info on "studies" etc There are some people who don't recover quickly, have flipped ports, can't even keep Water down, get so much restriction they vomit up (or PB as it's called) almost everything, but fortunately those people are in the minority. There are also people who never or rarely PB, eat anything they want but in smaller quantities, recover quickly, have no fill or port issues, etc. They are in the majority I think. So welcome!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
