kaytiebugs 0 Posted September 19, 2008 I'm 242 pounds. I'm 24 years old. I want to lose about 100 pounds. I'm wondering if I'll have much excess skin? Weight is a big consideration. I forgot to ask my doc, but a lot of people say that because of my age, my skin is more likely to shrink on its own. Obviously I won't ever have washboard abs without a TT, but I'm okay with a little jiggle.... I've just been watching RNY youtube vlogs and they have a lot of excess skin.... but they started at a weight much higher than mine. Anyone around my age post op and close to goal want to offer their experience?
luluc 6 Posted September 19, 2008 Anyone around my age post op and close to goal want to offer their experience? not near your age:frown:, but..LOL i lost 75lbs with no skin sagging issues at all. i don't think you can gauge if you'll have excess skin till you start losing & your body starts changing. genes, skin, how long you were overweight, so many variable to determine if you'll have skin issues requiring surgery. fingers crossed ya don't!!! kaytiebugs 0 Posted September 19, 2008 So do you think the fact that I've been overweight for about 5 years and obese for about 3 makes the outlook better? Or worse? not near your age:frown:, but..LOL i lost 75lbs with no skin sagging issues at all. i don't think you can gauge if you'll have excess skin till you start losing & your body starts changing. genes, skin, how long you were overweight, so many variable to determine if you'll have skin issues requiring surgery. fingers crossed ya don't!!! luluc 6 Posted September 19, 2008 So do you think the fact that I've been overweight for about 5 years and obese for about 3 makes the outlook better? Or worse? i was overweight for about a yr, obese 2 - never had kids. i really can't say. i have read those who've been overweight most of their adult life have significant skin issues. but it's so individual, my point. be real hard to determine......i realized after 50lbs gone that things were snapping back to normal very nicely; i should also say i started working out immediately and exercise "might" help??? Love2Lose 0 Posted September 19, 2008 Hey kaytie, I'm 26 and I was banded 3 months ago. I've lost 40 lbs and I've had no issues with sagging at all so far and I doubt that I will. I think it also depends on where you carry your weight. Even when I was heavier, I was always very nicely proportioned and I have the height (I'm 5'9) to really mask my weight. Good luck to you in your journey! You're really lucky...I wish I could have had my surgery 2 years ago at 24! (Oh wait, I'll be 27 next month! Damn!) lol Take care! ~Love2lose
amberstar 1 Posted September 19, 2008 There's also lotions and cremes that you can put on your skin, especially the stomach. A friend of mine used some kind of firming cream during his weight loss, sorry I cant remember the name. But it's something to look in to.
