I am starting my 3rd day for pre-op diet and i woke up with leg cramps in middle of night. I am assuming this is from my potassium level and is there anyone else who had/has this problem. What did you do to correct it.

Yes! my legs cramped and ached sooo bad at night. My surgeon told me to have a little watered down Tomato Soup once a day to get in some potassium and to drink more Water.< /p>

Those are also symptoms of blood clots. I am speaking from experience and those are really dangerous. If you continue to experience that you should be checked out right away!!! I had a blood clot form in my leg(went untreated) and broke off and traveled to my lungs (pumonary embolism)which I am very lucky to be alive because normally those are fatal!!!

Good luck!!

Normally I would be concerned about that also but I have been on my pre-op plan for my 3rd day as of today. Normally I get different types of nutrition including bananas which helps with potassium. I figured since I havent had anything but Protein shakes for the last 2 days that is where they are coming from.

Anyone else have experience with these as well?

I had them too. I was told that Gatorade would help. It's your electrolites that are out of wack. Try some Gatorade.

They were ok with you using the gatorade even though it has the higher sugar content?

Post-op, I am suppose to drink l class of Endura which is a Metagenics product...powder mixed with Water. I've been told its similiar to Gatorade without the sugar. When I called about the cramps in my legs pre-surgery, they told me to take only a quarter cup. So I'm thinking take the Gatorade and dilute...it's to replenish some of your electrolites.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
