how do i know when i'm full

Recommended Posts

I became "banded" three days ago and am able to eat creamy Soups (still liquid diet). But I can't tell when I am full and I don't want to risk stretching. Any advice?:crying:

With liquids, you probably aren't really going to feel full. It's all running right through your band. Right now, your stomach is still swollen & sore internally from the band and your not going to have much of an appetite. That will change at about 7-10 days. Once you start eating some mushy stuff, you'll find out what full is. It feels a little different, much like a fuller pressure feeling up under your ribs. It will only take a few days to learn. If you over-eat, it comes up!

Since you don't have a fill and you are on liquids, you don't have to worry much about stretching your pouch. Since you are drinking thicker liquids, you don't want to drink too fast but the liquid will go through to the big stomach, just a little slower than, say, Water. You will know it when you get full. I had the same question and let me tell you, a few days later, I figured it out! Bad thing was I did it 2 nights in a row and was so full for so long, I was miserable! All it took was one spoonful too much. I wasn't hungry anymore and knew I should stop but wanted that last bite. It's hard, but I will never do that again, if I can help it!!

Keep track of how much of the Soup you are drinking. Maybe drink 1/4-1/2 a cup and see how you feel. If you're not hungry, put the rest away for later. Even if you get hungry again in an hour or 2, then you can go back for more. My surgeon actually forbids Soups b/c they are so full of calories and little Protein and you get much more of it down. Although what I do is the bean/lentil soups, and blended them. Now I don't have to blend them. But they have LOTS of Protein for a 1 cup serving (6-8 grams, depending). I like Amy's Organic, she has low fat and low sodium varieties too!

Back to the full-feeling. Trust me, you'll figure it out! Just be "listening" to your body so you don't get so full you PB!

I am four days out and wondering the same thing. I had 2 Protein Shakes and 1/3 cup of cream of chicken Soup along with some Water and juice yesterday and it took till after 9pm to just get that down. Then around 11 pm I started to feel sick to my stomach. So now I'm a little scared to try much today. I am working on a Protein Shake now but its slow going. I am so scared my band may slip every little thing is worrying me.

I was banded on October 24th of 2007 and never felt "stuffed" but after all of these years of feeling hungry all of the time I can eat a cup of food and walk away without feeling as though I were being deprived.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
