Advice: How may calories do you typically have per day?

Recommended Posts

I understand how much Protein I am suppose to have and I know that on pre-op I was suppose to keep my calories at 800 per day - but post-op how may calories are you eating and how much exercise do you do? I had my surgery on Monday the 15th and I walked for about 30 minutes (in one walk) yesterday. In tracking my calories I had about 500 yesterday - all liquid diet. Thank you for your advice and can I say what a great board this is and how much I have learned from it! Everyone is so responsive and helpful! Thanks again!!

On liquids I was between 600-850. Once on regular foods again, I stayed at the 800-1000 range and stopped losing weight. I bumped up the level to 1000-1250 and have been losing steadily ever since.

I try to stay around 1200 calories per day. Anything less than that I don't lose weight. I don't gain either, I just stay put. I walk 30 minutes every day and try to do my aerobics at home (gotta love Richard Simmons!) 2-3 times per week.

I was not really given a calorie level. The calorie amount would be individual (depending on your activity level, your current weight, your metabolism, etc.).

I am just supposed to eat when I am hungry and stop when I am satisfied. If I am not losing weight by following the rules then I am eating too much and I get a fill. I eat around 900-1000 calories when I am where I want to be with weight loss and restriction.

I got the same advice you did. Don't count calories or fat, just quit eating when you are full. And of course..excercise!

my dr "suggested" 800-1000 calories in the beginning & on most days that's where i floated. but i also didn't lose much. i started working out early on, and started the c5k program in jan - also getting a trainer. i wasn't losing because my calorie intake was not enough, so my dr suggested i work towards eating 1100-1250 calories per day & sure enough the weight really started to come off - much more so than early on.

i think you have to play around with your calories to find that number that results in weightloss, and that might mean increasing the cals...

Banded in June. I try to stick to 1200 hundred calories, but I allow myself up to 1400 on "hungry" days which is once a week or so. I find I have to journal everything I eat because I have serious food amnesia.

I was banded on 6/30/08 and my doctor has me on 1500 per day. 1500 seemed high at first but I was loosing so they kept me at that level. I began to be difficult not to go over until they got my band tighten to a point where I had restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
