Hot Or Cold? Opinions Please

Recommended Posts

Here's a little update.

In the mornings when I wake up I have a pain in the upper breast area.

Everyday I try to drink 3-4 oz of room temperature propel Water every hour.

I read to start the day off with something warm so I started doing hot chicken broth. That seems to be ok but here's the question.

If I am swollen(surgery was the 10th) would it be better to drink something cold to help the swelling go down? I'm not really sure what to try because I would hate to drink the cold Water and be in misery more than I am.

Also, last night I had two popsicles back to back. That really made my chest feel better so that's why I'm going with the ice cold drink theory for in the morning.

Any thoughts or experiences on this?

I had my surgery on the 9th, and find that it doesn't really matter if the liquids are hot or cold for me, but I have read that very cold liquids can make your stomach spasm. at times. hope this helps

How much Water are you able to drink in a day?

First thing in the morning, cold beverages cause greater restriction and more discomfort for me. Somehow warm/hot beverages open me up more. I have tight restriction and start my day with hot tea. However, I know I don't have an issue with swelling, just tight restriction. Hot seems best for tight restriction.

If you do have swelling from surgery and don't have a lot of restriction yet after being newly banded, I bet the cold feels really good on your stomach and might be more helpful. Cold seems best for swelling.

I am 11 days post op today and just got home from my first doctors appt. I asked him that question and he said I can put in as much as I want because it goes right through the band easily. On tuesday, (day 14 postop), I can eat anything that I want to put in a blender and puree.

I like HeatherO also start out with something warm in the morning. My morning ritual is to have a cup of hot Decaf tea. It helps get everything loosened up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
