WHY are people voting for McCain?

Gadget, I keep waiting and waiting for the outcry, as Obama's socialist tendencies are uncovered, but.......silence. Either people are apathetic, or stupid (or like the appeal of a socialist government, I guess).

Plain - I really do hope you are not painting all liberals with the "stupid" paint brush. My undergrad is in poli sci and I have an MBA. As I have stated numerous times, we are electing a President, not a dictator. The fact that Bush's approval numbers are in the TOILET, I think it's "stupid" to support someone that's voted with Bush 90% of the time.

Of course, if Cheney had it his way, the President would've been dictator with the Congress and Supreme Court as mere secondary annoyances. Clearly, Cheney ain't much for the Constitution either.

Gadget - with your often and longggggg posts, how do you make time to also teach children? I'd be too wiped out to do all that research.

I'm not reading that crap anymore. It's so one sided. Give me something unbaised and I might go further than the first paragraph. That is extreme left or extreme right. I'm tired of it. McCain isn't Satan, Obama isn't the Devil. I enjoy reading others opinions, especially if I can learn something. I haven't been involved in Politics for that long, and I do think I have a lot to learn, but I won't read propaganda anymore. (For both canidates)

I'm not stupid, or anything else, I just don't have the energy or the time to try to prove someone wrong, or even to show another side of an argument, to someone that has such strong, deep deep deep beliefs and loud opinions, like Gadgetlady. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it makes it hard to debate someone, or learn anything from someone like that. I have too much stuff to do and not enough will or patience to go forcing someone to change their beliefs, It is a full time job with not a lot of actual productive results.

I think it's a failure of education, of a true understanding of what our Founding Fathers fought for. Many people just don't see socialism as the freedom-killing disease that it is.

As the article pointed out, this has nothing to do with Bush. It has everything to do with Obama and his disregard for the American Constitution.

I agree that the first few paragraphs are unpleasant; I debated not posting them, but wanted to keep the entire article intact so decided to do it. But I did bold the important stuff so people could skim and still get the meat. Here's the most salient thing:

If this has not stopped you dead in your tracks, either you don’t understand, or you’re already dead. What Obama is doing here is expressing his opinion that the Court would have better effectuated his definition of “political and economic justice” if it had been willing to ignore the limits placed upon it by the Constitution.

I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about the general public. Most people don't understand basic economics. Yes, there are some people who are socialists because they truly believe it (Obama comes to mind), but there are some who just get sucked in because it "sounds good" and they've never been exposed to the problems with it.
