How about just some facts. Obama was rated the most liberal senator in the US Senate (that would be #1 for those of you whose parents weren't rich enough to send you to a private school). Biden was rated #3, just ahead of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who is a self-avowed SOCIALIST (oh -- is that a bad word?). The ratings are from the National Journal and based on actual votes (not opinion) (see NATIONAL JOURNAL: 2007 Vote Ratings (03/07/2008) for more information).

I dunno. Someone whose votes make him more liberal than a socialist would be, um, another socialist.

I forgot to mention that Hillary Clinton herself said we need to know the truth about William Ayers and also said he was not experienced or ready on day one to be President - she only changed her tune when she didn't get the nomination - if we went back and watched the debates again and heard her stump speeches again she agreed with the Republicans on almost every issue regarding Obama.

I don't think he is a terrorist but he sures lies a lot about his relationships with people - if there is no reason to lie then just say what the deal is - he and Bill Ayers are good friends - he promoted Ayers book a few years ago - he also had a fundraiser in his home - I am not saying there is anything wrong with that just tell the truth!

Why don't you think giving people who don't pay taxes part of what you earn a socialist view - that is what they do in other countries who are socialist countries - a government run health care program is also socialist - Canada has it and the people up there who don't like sitting in the doctor's office for several hours and can afford it come to the USA for their health care. I do not want to argue because everyone is entitled to their opinion but read Karl Marx' manifesto and you will be amazed at how close to Obama's plan it is. Also I was appalled that he thinks that when a baby is born alive that was being aborted he does not think you should try to save that life. I won't even go near the Rev Wright issue - if you could possibly think he didn't know and agree for 20 years with what he was saying that is being very naive.

pjd - DH and i are maxed as far as what uncle sam can take from us in taxes. we pay qtrly, and it's an obscene amt. i'm married to a fiscal conservative with liberal social beliefs. i'll not pretend i'm nothing other than a staunch democrat. he will not support mccain - not ever because of palin.

now, i don't expect anyone to take from theirs to aide in others - but i'm fortunate to be able to contribute and don't mind sharing the wealth. can't take it w/me. i don't consider myself a socialist - i consider myself, who my parents raised me to be - one who has, should give. if that makes me socialist - well someone should contact daddy bush & bill clinton who have asked those of us who can contribute do so.....hubby & i paid for 2 apts in dallas after katrina for 2 families for a yr.....took their pets & had them cared for....isn't that american or foolish socialism??

That is exactly what I am talking about - we give lots of money per year to various charities but that is our choice - government doesn't make us do it - we do it because we think it is the right thing to do - why should Obama tell us we have to give - why can't we just do it because we want to - just wait until he raises your taxes and takes away your deductions and leaves you with about one-third of what you earn to live on - how will that help the economy - that will cause people like you and me who can afford to shop and spend money and donate to slow down - that hurts the economy. I am not happy with Sarah Palin pick either - very disappointing but I do not want someone with basically a two year Senate run (because he spent the last 2 years running for office and not doing anything) to be our President - I would rather someone who has been in government longer whether that be McCain or someone else - I just don't think Obama has the experience. Like I said I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion without it getting nasty like some of these posts - why can't people just discuss it without getting so hateful. I appreciate your post - it was very fair.

i think it is so weird for people to claim that they know that obama and bill ayers are such "good friends". I did not know that you knew the obama family so well. i feel like obama is being honest about his relationship with ayers...people are just adding their own fabrications about what a close relationship he has with ayers. scare tactics...is all

Maybe you haven't read the article I read that said they think Bill Ayers actually ghost-wrote Obama's book - there are so many similarities in the writing of Ayers books and Obama's. Look up Americanthinker.com. I think if someone has ghost written your book or sat with you hours upon hours while you are writing your book and you are getting advice from that person while writing your book - sounds like he knows him a little better than he is admitting to. This is a man who was responsible for killing 7 Americans and who said he wished he had done more. Sorry I disagree.

i'm screwed no matter who is president - period, tax wise. to throw the towel completely on obama is really not fair. my investments are less now than when i was part of the happy internet bubble under clinton. bush's fault??? can't say - but there are MANY , and its distracting to say otherwise, there are many that are just not happy w/the funding going on for a war that a lg portion of america no longer supports.

and please - don't discount some of us who don't support the war, for not supporting the troups. hubby just wrote check last month for a donation to SAMMC for vets that are being denied benefits for war injuries.

It's American charity if you choose to do something nice like that, Lulu....it's socialistic when the government makes you do it. You are maxed out in taxes...what, around 33% (that may not be the max anymore....I'm woefully uneducated....plus I've never made enough money to have to deal with that level of taxation, lol)? That's cool....you have been blessed and fortunate in financial matters, and you don't try to cheat on your taxes. That's being a patriot. But how high would you be willing to pay in taxes before you think "Hey, that's not fair"? Would the government taking 50% of your income be too much? 60%?

See, nobody here is saying that zero taxes should be paid. But there exists a breaking point (probably different for everybody) where it is unfair for the government to take your hard-earned money simply because you made it.

For a lot of us, the breaking point is 33%. That's the fed taking a third of your income....heck, the church only askes for a tenth.

One who has, should give. They shouldn't be forced to or required to give. What you did isn't socialism in any sense of the word; it's charity. If people choose not to give, it's not up to us to require them to do it. In both cases, a transaction takes place; in one, you give. In the other, it is taken from you.

What you did is right and commendable, but how would you feel if someone withdrew that money and those resources from you just because they felt you had adequate means to give (whether you felt you did or not is inconsequential -- what matters is their arbitrary definition of your wealth)?

The Bush Admistration opened the socialist door by giving Wall Street 700 billion dollars of American taxpayers money. At this point Republicans have lost the debate about where tax dollars go.

more like 37%. and the churchs' i've seen in TX don't need a dime.

wouldn't it be interesting to see how much we have to invest in our economy when we are no longer funding a war ???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
