Sistergrl25 1 Posted September 16, 2008 Just curious...how long after surgery were you allowed to resume or begin working out??? How long until weight-lifting exercises???
DivaStyleCoach 89 Posted September 18, 2008 Hey Sistergrl25, In a couple of the other forums - 'Fitness and Exercise' I've heard responses ranging from light weights at 1 week to others who took a full 6 weeks off. I think it's partly personal preference, and partly what kind of workout you were doing (and the shape you're in) prior to surgery. I know for me - I'll be asking my doc. I'm currently doing weights 4 days a week, and don't want to go to NOTHING for 6 weeks - heck, I'll lose all my new muscle! :wink2: Definately check with your doctor - just to be safe. Good luck!:crying:
LaMonica 6 Posted September 19, 2008 Make sure to check with your doctor first before taking advice here so you know what guidelines to stay in. My doc told me absolutely NO exercise other than WALKING until after 30 days and I started regular foods. He said it's important to walk as much as I can daily, but after that I could do more brisk walking/jogging if I could, weights, etc. The only major restriction was no abdominal exercises for about 2-3 months to give time for my port to heal. I've known people to pull muscles in their stomach because of bending over too much, stretching stomach too much, etc. Remember they had to cut through those muscles to place your port and it takes a while to heal fully on the inside. But listen to your body after the guidelines and you'll do just fine!
curvesincali 0 Posted September 22, 2008 I have been on the treadmill for 30 minutes and a bike for 30-40 minutes four times a week. I feel good... not over doing it.
skinnyoneday 2 Posted September 22, 2008 I was given the okay to do all exercises 6 weeks after surgery. It has been a gradual process. I am learning to listen to my body as an indicator of how much I can do. The best thing to do would be to take it really easy at first paying attention to what doesn't feel right. I'm about 2 1/2 months postop and can do pretty much everything except for full sit ups.
theninside 0 Posted September 26, 2008 I just went back last week, so it's been a full year. It just took me that long to get back to the gym. lol. I would say give it a while for your band to heal in place befor you do any exercises that stretch muscles in that area. Maybe 3-4 months. But I would think that you can walk or work the treadmill after a week or two
