I need help getting back on track

Recommended Posts

I am 16 years old, had my surgery in 07. and I am back up to probably 280, not good at all and I have lost alot of muscle because of my lack of Protein. I am really disappointed in myself and can't stand to think about it. I just scheduled for another fill, I have three fills since my surgery, in 07. Hopefully this will be the start to get back on track. I am not as big as I was when I got the surgery but no where i want to be.

I am about to turn 17, and plan on seeing my family in ohio soon, but before that my main goal is to lose more weight and look better because I am ashamed to go up there looking like this because I know there going to say in their heads "what happened?"

I am asking for your advice/thoughts/help on how exactly I can get back on track. Its rough right now.

If you have time read my profile blogs and that will tell you my history, goals and much more than this post.

Thank You!

Good Luck to all!

I'm pretty sure it happens to everyone. Just start again! I'm not banded, but soon. I'm 15, almost 16. The band is just a tool, and you have to put your mind too it, to make things work! You can do it! Think positive, get back to working out and watching your intake. Good luck! :)

P.S -- Where did you get your band?

Bless your heart, you sound like you really want to make this work. Does your Lap Band doc in Austin offer a support group? That would really be helpful. I looked through the Texas Local Lap-Band Support Groups forum here and didn't see an Austin group...plenty of DWF ones. There is also a support group here on the forums for teens. Teens - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum I'll bet talking to someone near your age would be good too. Support is going to be key for you right now. You can also look for a mentor here - and experienced bandster to guide you.

You say you've lost a lot of muscle because of your lack of Protein. Sounds like that would be a good place to start - getting more Protein in your diet. Make protein the main part of your meal, followed by veggies, then carbs if you have any room left. Did your doctor or nutritionist give you any meal suggestions? Start keeping a food journal. Write down everything you eat, portion sizes, etc. Also make a note of what time you eat, how long it takes you to finish, then make a note of when you are hungry again.

Best of luck to you, and I will be following your journey and rooting for you!

Don't beat yourself up over this~~~just start over! Forget the past and look forward~~~you can do it! Don't be ashamed of yourself just because you got off track, just get back on~~~shame is for those who fail and NEVER try again! Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
