Time Warner Cable Employees with United Health Care

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm looking for info regarding employees of TWC who have UHC.

I have UHC Choice Plus EPO, I have a BMI of 48 but no co morbidities, no supervised weight loss attempts and I never tried to lose weight through something documented like Weight Watchers or Nutra System. The UHC rep I spoke to stated that I meet the initial requirements but said that there were probably other considerations when a board reviews my claim for approval. There is no way that I can pay for this out of pocket and am trying to improve my changes of approval.

Can you please describe the process you had to go through in order to get approved for the lap band surgery including any information regarding 5 year weight history, info submitted regarding several failed weight loss attempts and amount paid out of pocket?

Thanks I'm really new too all this and never have gone through a surgery before.

Lay it on THICK! Add ankle weights when they weigh you if you have to! haha High blood pressure? back pain? knee pain? pre-diabetes symptoms? sleep apnea? Whatever you can add in as a co-mobidity (weight induced problem) is to your advantage. List all the numerous weight reduction plans you've failed at.

Thanks Lori, it's true I will be adding that I have back pain, I'm pre diabetic and my mom is on insulin for diabetes among other things in a personal letter when my claim is submitted. I also have a sleep test on Thursday for possible sleep apnea.

How was the process for you was quick and simple and how is the band working out for you?

I was told that there is a way to ask UHC to pay for an out of network surgery... It's called a "Network Gap Exception"

I was also given a fax number to speed up things..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
