irish 0 Posted September 16, 2008 for me this was a easy decision, lap band is much less invasive and and fewer side effects. Recovery time is 1 wk compared to months of unable to eats solids and throwing up. I am 3 mths post surgery and have lost 34 pounds and look and feel great!!! Lap band was the best decision i ever made and i am now happy with myself and looking forward to looking and feeling better every month. Good luck and read all you can about both procedures and choose the one right for you!!
shrinkinmom 1 Posted September 16, 2008 I have only known 2 people who have had GBS. First is my brother. He is nearly a year out and has lost clsoe to 100 lbs and seems to be doing fine. The other was a co-worker. She had GBS 5 years ago. She lost over 100 lbs and then developed ulcers. She couldn't hold down food and eventually her organs shut down and she essentially straved to death. She was 31 years old. We are all told that GBS has a higher risk. I took it with a grain of salt until I actually witnessed the reprocusions. I think the Lap band has a proven success rate with a very low risk. ANd the fact that it is reversible means that if you try it and it you are not successful can have the GBS down the road.
