To Fill or not to Fill ???

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I need some help I had my second fill 10 weeks ago and even though lots of things get stuck I can eat very big portions of the things that don't,

I feel like the food musn't be sitting in my pouch as I can eat large amounts and it must be passing through with the certain foods that get stuck on the way through!!

Can anyone help has this happened to anyone where certain foods stick and hurt a lot however it takes large amounts to be full and my weight is going no where since the fill and I am hungry a lot.

I am going through the exact same thing. I had my second fill about 8 weeks ago and can eat a good amount of food without feeling full yet, certain foods get stuck. I'm going for my third fill on wednesday. Right now I have a total of 3.5 cc's in my 10 cc band. Hopefully one of these fills will really kick in. My weight has been the same for a few weeks now and I expected it to keep going down.

I think all banders have this issue to an extent with certain kinds of food.

For instance, I can eat 4-6 ounces of chicken and be full for hours or I could probably eat a bottomless bucket of popcorn and be hungry an hour later. I know Proteins like chicken and salmon or steak stuff me so I eat them first. They seem to act as a stopper which gives me a slow draining effect.

You just have to make choices on what to eat when that make this work for you rather than against you. The stuff that "sticks" should be used to best advantage and built into your menu.

Hello,

Keep in mind when you eat, if you eat to much you are putting a lot of weight in your pouch and it will cause pain. You have to use Portion Control. dont eat until you are full. You should only being for about 10 to 15 min at a sitting only. And chew chew chew. then dont drink for 60 min after, then only sip the Water so you dont create like a backwash. By sipping it slowly moves the food through the band. But with the little amount that you have sounds as if you need the chew better and eat less. I just had my 3rd fill and have 7 cc. you should be eating only about 1/2 to 1 cup of food only. aslo if you eat to fast you dont give the food time to settle. if you are eating more and more food at each sitting, you probably need a fill. next visit to the doc ask him how much your portion size should be. Also, the more fills you have the more restriction, usually 3-5 fils will give you the most restriction. good luck

Go get another fill. When you eat, don't eat the "slushy stuff" that does through fast. Eat SLOW. Don't drink while you eat. I had the same problem, but remember, when you get on up to 7-7 1/2 cc's, you will NOT be able to eat large amounts. IT WILL COME UP, whether you like it or not. Sounds gross, but true. Go get another fill and talk to your Dr. CHEW, CHEW, CHEW. I would have never made it without getting the fills about every 3-4 weeks. 1/2 cc at a time. I have lost 60 pounds, surgery was in March 08. It is a sloooww process, you are not going to lose 20 pounds in two weeks. Go through your paperwork that the dr. gave you post-surgery every once in a while and refresh your memory on the procedure. You can do it, I know it's hard, but this band is only a tool, it has to be adjusted to fit you and you have to work with it. I wish you good luck. P.S. I'm not a know-it-all, just have been exactly where you are. You will get past it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
