Just Getting Started

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, just wanted to say hello..I have an appt. in a week to meet with a surgeon and attend a lap band seminar in the same day, it's all one process...can't stand being heavy anymore, I don't feel well physically, my back hurts, two years ago I went to see about breast reduction surgery and was told "you need to lose a ton of weight". So humiliating! But if I don't lower my overall weight, my body will look out of proportion... I'm nervous but feel I need to do this...

I've been thinking about doing this for years now. went to the seminar on Aug. 28th and my first consult with the surgeon is this Wednesday. Since the seminar, I've already been dreaming about being fit (I prefer to think of being fit rather than skinny). I'm soooo anxious. I think once I get that appointment over with, and they tell me that there is no reasons why I CANT do it, I'll feel better.

I did the Phen-phen thing when it first came out - oh maybe 12 or 15 years ago I think - I lost 90lbs in 9 months and was soooo happy. I think my favorite thing was being able to tuck in my shirt and wear a belt!

Then they took it off the market, and in the next 9 months I gained back all of my 90lbs + some.

I've been on the other side of the tracks - and I want to go back!

Good luck to all -

Linda

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
