Anyone Else Not Able To Get All Liquid In?

Recommended Posts

I sip 3-4 ounces every hour but I just can't get it all in. (broth and propel Water is all I can have)

I'm suppose to have 32 ounces.

At times I feel a slight pain and heaviness in chest so I'm wondering if that is a sign to stop sipping.

Anyone else?

Thats how I felt . I was banded 8/28 . I don't think you have to drink that much . You might float away. I would just take in what you could. It also could be gas making you feel like you are so full. Take your time. You will be fine-Elisa

It's so nice that others can relate.

Such a great board. Thanks for responding. I don't feel so bad now. I just don't want to dehydrate.

Yes, the tightness is the gas. Just try your best to get in as much liquid (water) as possible. I love Water, but even I couldn't do it the first week. I'm probably still not doing it 3 weeks later, but just keep an eye on yourself. Going to the bathroom, skin still springs back after pressing on it... Try to get a some sort of measuring ability, a 32 oz cup or something and fill it up and see how much you're actually taking in... I'm supposed to have twice that. I had the same glass of water (about 20oz) on my night stand for about 3 days after my surgery! LOL!

Good luck.

Hi Sandra

I was banded on 9-8. I am supposed to get 64 oz. of Water down. I was starting to get disapointed with my 32 ounces. I really have to concentrate and continually drink to get 32 down. Someone else wrote about the pressure being gas. I'm sure that's what it is. Just today I have had the worst pain in my left shoulder, just like a knife stabbing me. I know it's gas but man it's killing me. I haven't weighed myself since the morning of surgery. I am feeling bloated and don't want the disappointment. Are you back to work? I just called in this morning and took another week off. There is no way I could work tomorrow. It's nice chatting with someone who was banded about the same time as me.

I too am having a hard time getting it all down. I have to drink ALL day. It's hard. Especially when I've been in a lot of pain, and sleeping much of the days away. I was banded 9/11. I'm just starting to feel better today.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one feeling like this...

I was banded on 9/11 and today was the first day that I could consume the 3, 4-6 oz shakes that I am supposed to. My gas pain wasn't too bad this morning, but tonight it's horrible. I feel like someone is sitting on my chest.

They say to walk, walk, walk...I've been trying to walk around my house...going outside wasn't an option this weekend with all of the rain here. Not to mention I'm sore and just want to rest...

I was banded on 9/12. I am also experiencing lots of gas pain. I have found when I prop myself up with 4 or 5 pillows the pain subsides. I also have my hubby burp me like a baby and this too seems to help. I called my doc this morning because when I woke up, I didn't feel like I had the surgery. As the day wore on, I started to feel the soreness again! It definitely is better than I expected, and I've lost 5 lbs allready! Good luck to all! Keep up the good work!

AMEN on the walking issue. I too am having a hard time walking. I get so tired so quickly. I usually walk about 2 miles a day, but I just do the circle in my cul de sac now, and I'm exhausted. Yesterday I went to the grocery store, and when I got home, I had to take a nap. LOL! I'm tired all the time. My husband read that is because of the lack of Protein. I'm doing better getting my Protein Shakes and supplements in, and I do feel a little better, but I'm still soooo tired. This is 4 days after surgery for me. Is everyone this tired all the time?

What about in the mornings?

I don't think it's gas because I felt fine this morning but as soon as I tried to drink my Water I thought I would die with chest pains.

Anyone else? I hate to go 12 hours without Water or broth but that's how it's working out. My last drink was last night around 8:30. So it's been 11 hours since I've had anything.

WOW! 12 hours sounds like a lot to not have any liquids. Did you ask your Dr.? Does your Dr. do a fill during surgery. I know some do, but mine does not. You should tell him you can't get any liquids in. 12 hours sounds drastic. You'll dehydrate.

I was banded 8/25 and I'm STILL having a hard time getting my Water in! Before surgery I was using a marked pitcher in the fridge to make sure I got all of my 64oz in a day. The other day I filled it up and put it back in the fridge. It's getting better. I've almost finished it 2 days in a row! BUT still not getting it all in. I just can't seem to do it. Before surgery there were days when I'd have that pitcher empty by mid-afternoon! Now it can be 10PM and I still have a couple of glasses to drink! I just can't do it! I'm still working on it though. It's at least making me pay more attention to how much I'm drinking. I just get so full so fast! I think I'm still swollen and just can't hold that much anymore!

Keep trying is all I can say. Maybe a long-timer can tell us if it gets easier.

I too was banded o 9/11! This is the first day that I haven't had the god awful pain in my left shoulder, but I still have some pressure in my chest. It comes and goes. I feel like if I could just pass one big burp it would all go away!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
