Mommy Dearest, thanks for making sure I never feel happy!

BBK. When I first read the letter, I thought, okay, a very concerned mom. Maybe a little over the top, but concerned none the less. The internet can be dangerous, and I could see her point. The pictures? Good heavens. I was a high school teacher for several years and I've seen WAY worse parading up and down the hallways!!! Your pictures were in good taste, and nothing, absolutely nothing was showing that would warrant your mom's criticism. Then, I read your post further down about what you suffered through as a child, and that your mother did nothing to stop it. WHAT? I was stunned. This reaction coming from the same person that allowed that to happen to a child? I clentched my teeth. There's a whole lot more to all this. Now I understand your pain. YOu're right. she had no right to say it at that point. She lost her priviledge to act like a mother to you. And notice I say priviledge. She squandered that. I now see the letter as concern for HERSELF!!! She was worried about Ralph for God's sake!!! She didn't want this to reflect on her!!! Her concern for "you" is a load of crap. Pure and simple. Sorry. I hate to be blunt. Once you do that to a child, you're unredeemable as far as I'm concerned. You live your life, love your kids, be comfortable in your skin (Hell you deserve it!), and Celebrate your blessings. Leave the dirt where it belongs.... In the bin. Don't EVER let her get the best of you.

Well, based on the answer, I was being overly sensitive. But you see, I was thinking that there was some logical reason to throw Ralph in there. I.E., that the idea that Ralph would see the picture would somehow upset BBK. But apparently not...

There is nothing logical about her at all. That there in lies the problem! :)

BBK --

Apparently this is a recognition problem. Do you think maybe you need to tell your mom that you're not NAKED chic, your picture is under hers? (TeeHee) :wink2:

Seriously, though, I grew up without my mother so my grandmother stepped in to help my Dad out and our relationship seems to parallel what you describe with your mother. I'm sure you realize that it is all about "control". At my wedding, my grandmother was going around introducing herself to everyone as the "only mother I've ever known" and when that got old, she then proceeded to sit down and start crying, telling anyone who would listen, how tired she was with all the work she had done on my wedding. These are just drops in the bucket compared to the lifetime of things she has done. Our relationship is very strained, to say the least, because of her constant need to try to control me.

Your pictures are in very good taste, girl. I wouldn't give it a second thought! BTW, shouldn't you ask Ralph for his vote? :crying:

BBK - The impression that I received from reading your mother's letter was that she sounds like quite the manipulative drama queen. This letter was, and make no mistake, all about her and her feelings and the maintenance of her self-image of herself as your mother; it really has little or nothing to do with you except, of course, that it says very hurtful and destructive things.

It has been both my personal experience and my observation from looking at the relationships of my friends that the parent-child relationship is the most psychologically loaded relationship one will ever have. I know that I have fully recovered from bad marriages and romances but that I still at my advanced age will dwell on the damage done to me as a child by my incompetent yet loving parents. Indeed, this is why I still see a therapist. My parents are now dead. I have found this to be surprisingly relaxing. That sense of guilt they gave me is gone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
