New Lap Band Member in Maryland

Recommended Posts

I just joined lap band talk yesterday. I had my band surgery on 4/27/08. I have lost about 29 lbs. I haven't experienced any of the problems that I heard at so many of the support group dicsussions or from people I've know who have also had the band. As a result, I feel it has been more difficult for me to loose weight as I don't feel restricted.

My life is extremely busy as I have 4 children, husband, home and full time career. I do not have an opportunity at this time to attend the post surgical support group meetings in my area.

Giving the busyness of my life, I am looking for somewhere I can get info. on other foods that I can eat that will accomadate my busy lifestyle but yet be convenient. If any one knows of a place on this site where I can find a list of acceptable food for lap bands that I can eat on the go, by at the convenience store, fast food restaurant (that are acceptible) or easily prepare I would love to know how to access it.

Thanks for welcoming me to your group!

Sheri

Hello,

I had my band in April 21st. and have lost 43lbs since the band, or so my scaled this morning and 40 lbs before during my 6mth diet i had to do. I am on my 3rd fill and have great5 restriction. You usually dont have restriction until the 3rd or 4th fill. Until then you are still on your own to lose the weight. Good rule to remember is Protein first, then veggies. no Pasta, no bread, no rice, no potatoes. anything else you eat besides meat, fish, chicken, seafood, pork or turkey and veggies, you have to count the carbs. Stay below 30 carbs a day and you will lose. Good luck on your journey.

I too love to eat. I still can eat somehow. I can tell you that my attitude towards what I eat changed completely when I saw the first few pounds come off. There is a sign in my Dr.s office, that says "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". 29 lbs. later, I truly believe this.

I can stick to regulating my food for a few years then I fall off the wagon and go hog wild. What is to stop me from doing this again after the surgery?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
