Cyndel

You'll do just fine! Dr. Kwon is a very good surgeon. Although people say that he is strict, he is a very nice man. Also, he has a great office support staff who you will get to know quite well.

Don't worry - be happy!

Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted on your progress - it's only a week away!!!!!!!!!

Cyndel...I too had surgery with Dr Kwon! He is awesome! Very good hands. The office staff is great too! I haven't seen anyone except Dr Kwon since my surgery, but I have met them all thru my journey! I had my surgery on May 5 2005...and so far I have lost..38 pounds. I had to lose 10 pounds preop....sooo its 28 since surgery....six weeks ago! I feel great...it is a huge adjustment though.... As far as your insurance, who is it, if you don't mind me asking? I had GHI HMO and they were wonderful! Maybe its a company one of us are familur with...maybe we can offer some insight on how to win an appeal....

Well, it was nice meeting you! Talk to you soon!

Porcindoll....I have Cigna POS..I'm actually an employee of BSCH. Cigna denied in Dec stating I didn't have 6 consecutive months of a Dr. supervised weight lost program...So I saw the Dr. for 6 months and I had all the rest of there "criteria"...so I hope they don't get me on something else...Did you have a lot of pain after surgery? If so did they give U something in liquid form to take?..... Talk to U soon....

Cyndel ... I don't know anything about Cigna...but you have it all under your belt so it sounds. I didn't have much pain after surgery, if any. I remember I stayed over night because I had a reaction to the anestesia...then when I got home I had a prescription waiting for me. It was liquid vicodin. I had a little discomfort,,,(honestly have had worse period cramps in my lifetime) and I desided to take a little liquid tylenol...but then I saw how much of it I would have had to take, and said screw it! I took the liquid vicodin twice when I was about two weeks post op....I had a real bad pain in my left side. I saw Dr Kwon about it, and it said it was normal and that I should take liquid Motrin for a couple of days. I took the Motrin once and was feeling much much better. Im sure you will be fine! Dr Kwon is an amazing person and surgeon...He puts us through the hoops to make sure we are safe during the surgery....It is all well worth it. Hang in there with your insurance company! It doesn't sound like your gonna lettem get you down! GOOD FOR YOU!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
