Abdominal pain/soreness

Recommended Posts

Does anyone who has been banded for a few months have pain in their abdomine? I think it mostly occures when my stomach is empty. It is more of a soreness than a pain. I am concerned, I have only had 1 fill and I refuse to entertain the idea of erosion.

You may have over active proton pumps (acidy stomach). You should try taking Prilosec or its generic Omeprozole. Your doctor can also prescribe similar drugs in prescription stregth (Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex.) I think every bandster should be taking one of these drugs daily to prevent GERD, ulcers and other acid-related disease or processes.

Lovesgrapes, thanks for the response. I was on Prilosec but went off of them because I did not think I needed them anymore. I was thinking the possibility of an ulcer and did not know what impact that would have on my band. Guess I will add the Prilosec back to my pill box (I had gotten down to harmones and vitamines).

I went for several years with severe pain in my abdomen. Day in and day out I'd be miserable. It never presented as a burning or acidy type discomfort so all the doctors I saw never suspected that over active acid pumps were my problem. I started taking Protonix when I had a positive H. Pylori test. I had never felt better in my life! My pain was gone. I have taken some kind of proton pump inhibitor ever since (Protonix and Prilosec). There have been times when I haven't taken these meds for a week or more and I pay the price dearly!

I certainly can't say for sure that this is your problem, but taking one of these drugs is preventitive and possibly curative treatment. My doctor strongly suggests that all his bariatric patients take these medications. Of course you should tell your doctor about your troubles at your next visit. Good luck

I did start taking the Prilosec last night and I do have an appointment for a fill this coming Friday so I will discuss these issues with him. So far today I have been fine so you might have hit the nail on the head.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
