karebare714 14 Posted September 12, 2008 My surgeon only operates on Thursdays. Will I be able to go back to work the following Monday. I don't have much time off work. How long have you all taken off?

karebare714 14 Posted September 12, 2008 is your surgery scheduled yet?
kiz 1 Posted September 12, 2008 I had my surgery on Thursday, and if I had to, I could have gone to work on Monday, but it wouldn't have been my first choice. I was tired, and I felt more comfortable in a semi reclined position. You're much younger than me, I'm in my 40s, so that would probably play into your recovery as well. It does make a big difference as to what your job is too. If you're able to rest as needed and not lift anything to speak of, you should be fine. Really, though, you need to ask your doctor for his recommendation.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted September 12, 2008 And, as I said, it depends on your job. If you have a sedentary office job, you probably can. If you are on your feet like a waitress or a nurse, you probably need more time. If you are very active like a firefighter, you need a few weeks. So, what is your job? *Love* 2 Posted September 12, 2008 I was done on a Thursday & there is no way I would have been able to go back on the Monday. I didn't even start feeling even remotely human until the 5th day. I was weak & dizzy for about 4 weeks.
karebare714 14 Posted September 13, 2008 I am a receptionist at a cardiologist. No lifting but up and down all day.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted September 13, 2008 I recovered really FAST I slept on my side the first night etc....and I had my surgery friday and went to school (I'm a student) on Tues. I THOUGHT I felt fine but for example took a math test and made really stupid mistakes (and I'm a math whiz) So although I thought I was fine, I wasn't. I'd go back tues or weds, if at all possible. You will probably feel much better by then, but still be a little mentally fuzzy...and you may have a tougher time recovering from the anesthesia etc. Your throat may be sore from the 'tube, etc. Take another day or two if possible. Lin12/20/07 0 Posted September 13, 2008 Had my surgery on Wednesday & back to work on Monday. But, I made sure not to sleep too much after I went home from hospital. I tried to stay awake during the day, resting in bed & doing my hourly walking, visiting, reading, etc. Basically tried to stay a little busy while relaxing. This strategy worked really good for me after an open surgery several years ago & helped me get back to work in less than 2 weeks. I didn't mention I was having surgery to anyone at work & no one mentioned a difference. I have a mostly desk job so over doing wasn't really an issue. You have to see how you feel. It's a shame there isn't enough leave to take the time we really seem to need to recover & still get paid! Good luck!

SherryA 0 Posted September 13, 2008 If you have a desk-type job, you *should* be fine. I had my surgery on a Monday and went to work on Wednesday, but remember everyone is different... Good luck! Sherry
liquidbluegal 0 Posted September 13, 2008 I had surgery at 1pm on a monday and I was back at work on thursday for a half day and then full days then on! good luck
Fanny Adams 7 Posted September 13, 2008 It's doable but not preferable. If you can possibly take an extra day or two, I would advise it. It's worth it to get yourself past the main hump of recovery (I found a vast improvement on Day 5-6, compared to Day 4.)
