Burping and the band...

Recommended Posts

Yeah... so I had the band may21st 2008 and have lost 80lbs if you add in the 23lbs before surgery. But ever since I have had the band I burp all the time . And... the more fills i get... the louder they get lol! Anyone have the same issue? Any clue as to why it is happing? I guess I could live with the burping as long as the weight keeps pealing off. As long as this is not a sign that something is wrong its not a big deal for me. Just looking for a few answers. Thanks ahead!!

This question is brought up a lot. Some people have a ton of burping and some (like me) can no longer burp at all. Either way, it is common and not anything to worry about.

I have the same issue. I'm guessing it's from air trapped below the band in the lower portion of your stomach? I've had some huge burps when I bend over after I eat. Also, I find I burp much easier now too, especially if I do any type of physical activity immediately after eating. It doesn't matter if I eat one bite or 1/2 cup, it happens. I've only had one fill. I'm hoping this doesn't get worse!

I burp for an hour after I eat, every time. I've learned that the burping starts about 2-3 bites before I feel full so I'm now taking it as my sign to stop. My doctor says it's normal, but boy is it annoying!

I am almost 8 months out and burping is a part of my life. However, I have found that overtime, I have found ways to burp in small, internal burps that people can not hear or since. I kind of "make" myself burp but I can't explain easily how to do it. You can learn to make it virtually hidden if you desire to do so, it just takes a little practice :0)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
