Feeling Discouraged!

Recommended Posts

I feel really discouraged and hungry. I had my surgery on sept. 5th 2008. i feel like i have no energy. I don't want to get out of bed. I don't want to go anywhere. I don't feel normal! I've been exercising. I can't can only make one or two laps around the park then i'm tired. I don't get it. I've lost 17lbs between pre-surgery and post-surgery. but it's like. i want to know how long I will be feeling like this!! oh btw! liquid diets suck! and I don't think starving myself is going to help me lose weight!!

I was banded on 9-8-08. I am having lots of gas pain and have no energy either. I am starving to death!!! Liquid diets do suck, but it is for our own good. I have been walking a lot, but not able to do much due to the extreme gas pain. I feel your pain definately!

Don't give up! This will work for you. I was banded on 9/2 and our surgeon was very strict on doing too much within the first 30 days. We were told to "work up to" 30 minutes of walking in 30 days. Are you trying to push yourself to fast too soon? Are you getting in enough Protein? You will reach your goals and be the person you want to be. Pray for strength!!

Along with what everyone else is saying.... be careful not to push to hard to fast. Your body needs time to heal and if you do to much that could be hindered! I hope you feel better

I was only at 300 calories during my first week post-op and was really weak and shaky. I managed to squeeze in 200 more calories a day, and spent the other 2 weeks of my liquid diet right around 500 calories. That helped, for sure. I didn't try to push exercise because I just didn't have the energy because of the low calorie intake. But I made it through, and you will too!

hang in there the gas gets to be less. I just had mine on 8 Sep and have been really sore but I have not had the energy issue. I am using the Bullet type Protein from GNC (Not the energy ones) and I also make sure to get my Water and Vitamins. As a matter of fact I seem to have much more energy but I am too sore to workout so I do walk. I agree the liquid diet sucks. But it is part of new journey and remember it wont kill you it will make you appreciate and savor every future bite of healthy food you eat in your successful journey. Just know all of us are suffering with you. If the energy thing continues I would call the DR and get advice. Good Luck.

You just barely had surgery. Give yourself a break.

The liquid diet is not for dieting. It is so the band can heal around your stomach. Your stomach can't be rumbling and digesting food right now.

Try to get in as much Protein as you can as you move through the food stages and the weight loss will come when you start to get fills. For now, just rest!

I was banded 4/sept and I agree with those who say its HEALING TIME and the intake of Protein in vital. I use protein powders and also make a shake with milk and chocolate and Protein Powder and added 2 tbs smooth Peanut Butter whizzed up. Its delicious. Or you could make an egg flip by whizzing a raw egg into flavoured milk. Also baked Beans whizzed up with some Tomato Soup is another way to get fibre and protein. Hope you feel well soon. I am feeling on top on the world but I am not exercising yet just gentle walking. Want to heal before I get stuck in. ps. IF YOUR DOC HAS YOU ON Clear Liquids HOLD OFF ON MY SUGGESTIONS.

I have too much gas pain to really exercise. They put the port on top of my ribs and the gas is right under. I am having trouble taking deep breaths due to this. I have been walking, however very slow and controled. I know the energy will come back. I have been taking in one Isopure a day as well as high Protein Soup, and lots of Water. I am getting about 65-75g of protein a day. I thank you all for the good advice. It will be used believe me. I see the doctor today for my post-op appt. I am going to see if I can go on pureed food yet. I am starving all the time, and the nurse told me to get and keep busy. HA HA HA HA it is hard when you feel as though you have broken ribs.

Please check your Protein intake. The easiest way to get in enough is the New Whey bullets (42g). Make sure to get the 42g ones. It is only 3 oz of Fluid total, so it is REALLY easy to drink it. The consistency is thick, so some people mix it with sf tropical punch. You can drink about 1 oz in 3 sips, so I always just drink it by itself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
