Hurricane Ike Update from MissBS

Recommended Posts

Hurricane update - first thing this morning, I got a call telling me my surgery has been postponed from tomorrow (Friday) to Wednesday because of Hurricane Ike. We had to change our flights, extend the rent a car, and quickly get our hotel room for 4 more nights. We then had to go to a grocery store to get food (liquids) for all the extra days we will be here - the 23 day pre-op diet was bad enough, but now..... oh well. I also had an accute gallbladder attack today, so Mom and I had to go to an emergency room for that. What fun!! I am dissapointed that I won't be getting my band tomorrow, but... not much I can do about it. Our hotel suite is nice and I think we are safe, so....... The Great Houston Journey continues. My new surgery date is September 18th!! Keep your fingers crossed for me. I've heard of people naming their bands - mine is a no brainer - Ike  Becky

I'm SO GLAD you posted! Is your hospital downtown in the medical center area? My SIS lives in Pasadena and is riding out the storm!

So now I have 2 of you there to worry about!

Sorry you're stuck but glad you'll be safe! :)

OH and is the doc going to remove your gall bladder when he does the band? You won't even miss it if he does (except no more painful attacks, that is)

Becky!

Hi, its susan from indy. I was wondering about you in Houston, I will pray for you. My surgery went smoothly. My biggest pains have been in my shoulders. I have been taking Aleve for that along with the hydrocodene they gave me. I love my band so far. I lost 14 lbs pre diet and am excited to see how much I will lose when I go back in two weeks. I had 1/2 cup of chili pureed today for lunch and that stayed down well. Also really concentrating on gettting in enough Water. Let me know how you do

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
