HI My name is Gabby and i'm a mother of 5 year old twins girls:wub::rolleyes2:. I have been married to my dh for 12 1/2 years , he is AD Navy for the last 11years. I have just started journey to get the labband. I was so worried my PCP would say no , but she was very on board with it  I have a sleep study 9-19 and my lap band seminar on 9-22, After that I will get my appt with the lap band surgeon. I worry he will say no or tricar will say no. My dh says I worry to much LOL we all need a hobby right.

What all did Tricare make you do , was there a long wait to have it done. I know for GB they make you wait 6 months before you can have it done. I was going to have GB 1st and then my PCP she tricare was paying for lap band and she left lap band was better for me. I would love to hear everyone story.

My son was stationed there on the USS Kennedy before it was decommisioned. I am going to my consult on Sept 29th and I hope to learn then what Tricare will require. Some make it sound like tricare is easy but then others say no.

Hey Momoftwins...I'm a twin myself! I am in the preop testing stage of this whole thing, and I am here to tell you that my personal process with TriCare was E-A-S-Y. In fact they were the EASIEST part of this process! My hubby is a SSGT in the Army and we have Tricare Prime South, since we live in Texas. My papers were submitted on a Thurs and approved by that following Mon. I got the call on Tuesday. So it was pretty quick. I think each case is different though. But generally speaking and from what I've heard, they approve you pretty quickly. When I went to the seminar initially, the lady who took my paper after wards told me that she loves dealing with TriCare b/c they approve their patients fast and that she knows that they will do the surgery, if they qualify. So...I guess the answer is that if you qualify, you will be approved with no problem. I had no problem, so I guess I was fat enough...lol. Hope that helped and welcome to board...God Bless you on your journey!!

Hey Momoftwins,

We were stationed at NAS Jacksonville and NAS Mayport for a total of 10 years!! I was banded on August 12th, Tricare was a piece of cake to get my approval, had to do a chest xray, and blood test, of course 5 years of med records. I started the process in March and was banded in August. I thought it was pretty quick. Hope your journey will be as easy and quick as mine.

Oh by the way my DH retired after 24 year AD. I went from port to port. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
