Jachut 487 Posted August 11, 2005 No way would I let someone take out a part of my body that is working - not even if they'd found stones that were causing me no problems. You need your gall bladder, you dont grow body parts just for the fun of it. There is a high risk of gallstones after ANY weight loss, whether it was generated by surgery or not. Post pregnancy too. Fair Fat Forty and Flatulent as the saying goes - meaning overweight caucasian women post pregnancy are especially prone. Any stones you have/develop may also be able to be treated with ultrasound to break them up so they can pass. But sheesh, insurance companies not paying for gall bladder ops? That is truly unheard of over here! If gallstone attacks are not medical necessity what is?
jazma 16 Posted August 19, 2009 I am in the process of testing my Gal Bladder I am having a Huda Scan in the morning . I have severe stabbing pain under my ribcage on the right. I read several site on the web and #1. loosing more than 50 lbs can cause your Gal Bladder to go bad 2. You dont need a Gal Bladder to survive, I would not have mine removed just for the heck of it only if its not working right and making me ill. Research the net there is so much info out there and you will learn alot. Also Untra Sounds dont always show stones!
Fordgal88 7 Posted August 20, 2009 I wish they would have taken mine when I had my band. I just had it out last Thursday. I had 2 attacks, it was the worst pain EVER!! I ended up in the emergency room the first time thinking something was wrong with my band. My surgeon told me that gall bladder problems are a side effect of weightloss (I didn't use the same surgeon for my gall bladder). So far I am not having the explosive moments that I had heard some mention, but I am going to the bathroom more. Still better than the attacks. =) Shawna
